The first serie (about the conquest of Celtic Britannia) is very good and can be recommended anybody to read, however, his latest novel ("Centurion") is, IMHO, bad.

Hey guys i cannot recommend these books highly enough, i thought Bernard Cornwall was the king of the military novel until i started reading the first of the eagle series,i have now read them 3 or 4 times.
Scarrow really gives you an amazing feeling of how things may have felt during the harsh reality's of ancient life and war.
P.S. Make sure you read them in order guys

I've read up to the fourth book of Scarrow's series about Macro and Cato, and still going. It's a great series!

Valerio Massimo Manfredi is also awesome. His Alexander series is excellent.

Love Scarrow's work. There's a little Brit slang in there that makes it almost read like most movies on the empire such as "Ah he's just takin the piss with you mate" i.e. Romans=British accents.

However, they are by far my favorite fictional books on the period.
Yes, I hate the fact RTW is out and I still have a Japanese title. Come on now admins- let's get with the program.

Well I for one like the stereotype... Some found it a turn off over at RAT, but they also didn't like "Gates of Fire," which I also found to be a good book on Thermopolye. I think Steven Pressfield was the author, but I can't recall. Anyhow, I for one think that, considering we don't know the slang of the common legionary, it's good to have that in there for association.

Being heavily influenced by TV documentaries, series, movies, and books as I am, a Roman whose accent or syntax is not British is not a real Roman .

Dear friend, let me dissent!!!! I think that a real Roman should have an Italian/Spanish accent like us!

A Roman speaking with British accent seems to me (Italian) a really strange matter!
