Default Why are Norman Knights only available to Sicily?

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Normans#Conquests

The Normans got everywhere. The Crusader states, the British Isles, the French and various other nations employed Norman knights - why are Sicily the only ones to have access to them?

I'd like to see them as a cavalry option for a few more Christian factions, if possible.

    Any views?

To balance in the game and provide unique units for certain factions

I'd like to see other factions with a unit as powerful, versatile and cheap as the Scottish Rabble. Find them in any brothel/pub throughout the highlands and promise them drink and women and in return they'll fight to hell and back for you.

I think it'd be more historically accurate, and it means you could remove Mercenary Frankish Knights from the Templar roster and replace them with Norman ones.

I think it's less because of the spread of the Normans in general and more because Sicily was ruled by the Normans for a very long time, and thus constitute the core of the nobility that would be providing the knights.

Of course, it would still make sense for them to be available, say, as mercenaries in the Normandy region. I don't know if I would go so far as to replace the Frankish Knights in the Templar Roster with them, though, since that's supposed to represent an amalgamation of troops from a much larger region than just Normandy/Sicily.

    Cheers.

note: the kingdom of sicily that was founded by the Normans lasted only for a hundred years or so under norman rule before the last heir died...

Because "Crusader" is not equivalent to "Templar", and "Templar" does not necessarily mean "Crusader".

And, I imagine, because Crusader units tend to have very high upkeep costs when they aren't on crusade, whereas Templar units have costs that are more sane and more manageable for a faction in the Templar's position.

    Cheers.

I'm Norman. And I'm a Knight. And I'm telling you we come from Canada.

Ah, so it did. That's still better than quite a few dynasties (and not much different than the Carolingian dynasty in France), but I did not know it lasted only a hundred years. Good catch.

+rep for making me look slightly foolish.

    Cheers.
