Default What is the most difficult faction to fight against?

The most difficult faction for me is probably Egypt. I'm playing with England right now, and even though I beat them all the way to Mecca and Medina, they're still proving themselves as good foes. Whenever I start the battles, even if I have the advantage of the higher ground, they move their troops towards some hill in the end of their side and wait for me to come to them. By the time my knights and sergeants reach their lines, my men are either very tired or exhausted, and they're fresh. They pound the out of me with arrows and charge their light cavalry. I still usually win because my general has about 7 stars and my cavalry comes strong and pounds their spearmen in the back.

Even though I still beat them, I take heavier casualties than against anyone else, and I play on VH/VH. Their economy is always strong too.

England, the Armies of the Undying(Fatimids), and H.R.E.

I say HRE only because I have personally seen them sprout full stack armies out of the ground. When I say this I mean I turned watch AI movement on, had a spy there, and watched a fifth full stack turn into over two thousand strong instantly. They didn't move units from anywhere because I would have seen it and there aren't that many mercenaries in Germany to do the things I've seen. I'm just sayin'.

Ha ha, your game is glitchy then.

HRE is easy to beat, I had my armies take three of there cities like a walk through the park, and I just ceasfired because I didn't want to disappoint the man in Rome. Thats about the only countries I fought against, as I took mostly rebel cities in nothern france and flanders. The holy lands were hard because the Fatimids put up a good fight.

Yes, they are a pain to take out and even the slightest transgression is avenged ten-fold. They are very angry and vengeful.

Russians and Cumans, the steppes are slow to travel, and attrition really plays into the game when you try take their armies, don't even think about sieging unless you have many spies.

cannons don't work because they reduce your marching rate significantly, your army will be despondent by the time you get there.

Also the enemy would have built at least 2 full stacks.

Any infantry-heavy (especially if they have spears) armies are a pain in the ass.

Whenever I go on crusade, I usually bring one army with me. Three crap armies led by Generals vs my Infantry army will give me a pyrrhic victory I am not proud of...

That changed when I played as the mongols... Infantry armies = my favourite

You could always cheese it and move your army first and then have the general join up with them later. That way they will be fully supplied when the general meets up with them.

My tactic exactly. Nothing worse than an ill supplied army. If my men don't get their drink and their women they sometimes refuse to fight.

First that completely kills the point of the supply system.
Second that still doesnt solve the enemy build 3 stacks before you get there.

Playing jam's 1400 campaign as france, england is proving a serious pain in the ass. My plate armored pike militia breaks against billmen, and their longbows wear my numbers down. Armored sergeants and more billmen bleed my french knights. I win. But its hard going.

Im playing the BTR mod right now... And telling, Papal states massive armies of Papal guards and swiss guards are simply some of the toughest fights ive had in a long time. Those guys simply dont retreat, only way to is sorround them and then they will fight to the death. The pope and his bodyguards went right through my spearmen and come up on the otherside and started to slaughter my archers in the back. I really enjoyed those fights, my cavalry was simply useless. Other than those, massive numbers of elite mamluks from the egyptians were trample down my infantry in the desert.

    Great mod.

Longshanks is coming for you, Skooma Addict!

I personally find the Fatimids quite stiff opposition, as well as the Spanish factions. They are both strong opponents.

hmmmm, Scotland are terrifically hard. Those drunken Highland Rabble are causing so many problems, they wont leave me alone. In one battle they were so drunk that they managed to think losing was winning, and winning was losing. They just lay on the floor singing Scottish folk songs as my horde of peasants butchered them.

Scotland was an easy win for me. I ensured that I would have peace with them until later in the game, when I had Nottingham as a citadel and I could've fielded dismounted knights. Once my financial state was way above everyone's elses, I just came with two armies strong to Scotland. My Assassins killed at least 5 of their generals before the invasion, so they only had 3 generals left.

Its easy to beat them if you send your dismounted knights and sergeants to the main battle line, then ride your cavalry around and charge those rabble right into their arses. Of course I made sure I had at least 6-8 units of heavy cavalry when fighting them.

In my Hungary campaign, the Byzantines have been giving me trouble. But since I've made it so anyone can recruit a full stack from a single settlement in about two turns, huge numbers of men are everywhere. Thus, everyone will cause difficulty. However, I had something like six half-stacks (or about three stacks) around my newly-conquered Thessalonica. And when I seized and sacked their capital of Constantinople, a stack of good units immediately sprung up and almost took it back. Now, I have them down to a single castle on a lonely island.

    Feels good man.

Those Egyptians can be hard. I modded by game to convert sack to rape and pillage. Out of spite I then raped and pillaged the entire middle east. Do you think its possible to create a mod that lets your generals kidnap princesses and able to force them to bare an heirs? Historically speaking this was is quite accurate.

They keep on bringing swarms of troops practicaly from out of nowhere, sabotage all you want they will still bring out two or three stacks in just a few turns, wave after wave. Pure hack and slash
