Senator Crassus, leaving the senate, approaches the door, asking the nearest slave that he wishes to speak with Senator Balbus.
Senator Lucius Artorius Cato (34)
Master, a senator Crassus wishes to speak with you.
Well let him in then! Don't leave a senator waiting!

Crassus was finally allowed in and led to meet with Balbus.
"Hello, Senator. Can you believe all that business in the Curia? I'm still dumbfounded at what i've witnessed."
Senator Lucius Artorius Cato (34)
It's ridiculous behaviour by 2 idiotic senators. I had however expected that behaviour off of Caesar. He's not only a damned fool, but has a soldiers temper and tongue. What brings you to my abode then Crassus?

Well, merely to discuss such matters. Personally, I blame this populist streak through the senate for behaviour like this. I tell you, Balbus, I would wager my fortune that this Caesar fellow turns out to be amongst the Populares. It's all very well to support the people, but they simply do not understand matters of state. I can understand the mob's plight in a grain shortage or overburdening taxation, but the idea that they could properly direct foreign policy is absurd.
You may consider me a fellow Optimate, this recent business has made up my mind. I would hate to see this little squabble waste the time of the Praetor, but we should keep a watchful eye on Caesar.

Marcus knocks on the consuls door.
The lates event greaves him, how could Senators behave like that in the senate he ask himself.

Turnus walks to the house and sees Marcus Aelius
Senator Aelius, you're here also to speak with the consul I'm assuming? Perhaps it is about the recent breakdown of law and order within the sacred halls of the curia itself? Rest assured senator, as soon as a case is brought to me, I will ensure that these men learn their mistakes.

"I glad that at least our Praetor see the importance of having order in the curia" Marcus answered the Praetor, a good man he thought to himself.

The curia is where we LEAD the Republic. And if we degrade ourselves to petty squabbles like the one that was so flagrantly displayed, then how will we lead?

"I say this is what is happen when we let plebs into the senate. What would our ancestor say if they saw what a buch of ramble that is now allow to sit in the most sacred of halls?"
"We, the elites of men needs to take stand and defend the Republic from such as Caesar and the rest of the populares scum!"
Marcus speaked lowedly so that people on the streets looked at him, he saw all but angry faces, some even shouted "populares".
Being protected by his lictors, Marcus weren't afraid for the mob, but he hoped that the Consuls should open the door before his new tunica laticlavia where to be covered in citizens blood.

Hearing the ruckus outside stirs to the door and pulls both Marcvs and Tvrnvs in through the door and with a stern look, the mob slowly trickles away
I'm sorry for the wait men, my slave must have fallen asleep!

But don't blame the mob, they have not their own thoughts, but those preached to them by unruly politicians like Caesar and populists.

Crassus surveys the two senators and greets them warmly.
"Ah, good evening Senators. I trust you are here to discuss the matter of the shambles in the senate? An appalling business. It's those damn populares. I fear they are gaining all the power in Rome, and if we do not act soon they will have political power as well as popular support... dark times indeed."

edited above posts, but from now on, just pretend that my slave will let you in. i.e just walk in as I might forget you and leave you to die at the hands of an angry mob!

The Populares have no goals except power, power by any means. They have however chosen the mob. They make good deeds for immoral and gut wrenching reasons of supremacy. They must be stopped! or at least weakened so that they may not strangle the senate. For now we may agree, in future they will fight us to the hilt of a dagger.
Also, I hear that the censor does not want to pursue charges against the children of the senate. I think him a fool. Caesar managed to secure two nota Censora (is that even possible?) in one day! he should be punished as either un-roman or an idiot!

Actually, I believe that this is the best way. Political power will always be stronger than that of the mob - they are malleable, manageable. If the populares are shown to be a bunch of brawling, childlike fools such as Caesar, then it is to our advantage. If we were to press for a trial, the populares would have a casus belli against us, and we would find ourselves persecuted and overlooked completely for political power. And if Caesar were to walk free... his power and notoriety would increase tenfold, particularly amongst the mob.
As it stands, his presence is an embarrassment to the populares. When this has to be taken to the Rostra, it would not be difficult to portray the populares as a bunch of drunken, squabbling fools intent only on money and power. Caesar and Lupus have absolutely no chance of gaining office at the next elections, which weakens them considerably and delays any rise to power they may have ambitions of. They will be forced to place our fine optimates as replacements. And it is the optimates, men such as we, who have carried out our work fairly and efficiently, serving Rome. The next elections will see a considerable shift in power within this city. Senators, I think they have very much played into our hands.
Senator Lucius Artorius Cato (34)
Which brings me onto a new matter, it is of course far away, but what will we do next elections? I was thinking I would either stand for Consul again, or stand for Censor. What about you fellow optimates?
