Default A small question on the Navy

First of all, let me just say that if/when this mod is finished, it will be amazing and is pretty much exactly what I've been hoping for.

There's one thing that I'm curious about, though. The map has obviously been enlarged around Greece, which is great. But will navies be as fast as before?

My point is this: historically, navies travel far faster than armies; this was precisely how Greek influence expanded as far as it did, and why certain city states could influence things as far west as Sicily while having the bulk of their army or wealth in Greece or farther east. But if the navies travel the same speed in this mod as they do in RTW, and the map is as large as it is, I feel like when playing a Greek faction I'll have a hard time just getting across the Aegean when for the Greeks (unless there was an enemy navy actively seeking them out) this was very easy.

It's sort of small and nitpicky, but I figured I'd at least bring it up and see what others thought.

good question going from 1 or 2 moves in RTW to 4 or 5 in Hegemonia? im in favor of one move across the sea because i dont think it took 2 years to get across the Aegean

    Dito.

A system like in Roma Surectum would be good where the navys have more movement points and move 2 to 3 turns in one turn.

So, long as the weather wasn't bad.

I've been reading various books on the Persia vs Greeks wars (for example Persian Fire by Tom Holland) and there were times of the year when the storms were really bad (not just winter) and naval movement was restricted.

I presume the incidence of storms could be increased, somehow. In most mods they appear to disable storms at sea.

Ye - I agree with the concept and if it is not in, it is ridiculously easy to mod (literally takes 2 minutes) so it's a win-win situation really. It would also encourage naval invasions and if you made Athenian ships cheaper or more readily available then we could have an AI Athens that launches invasions on the Pelepennesos using it's superior navy. I hope this happens because, otherwise, Spartans will own everyone; their only weak point is there navy!

Yep i am gonna do something similar mate and make sure that the Spartan week points of their navy,Cavalry and seige warfare are eradicated and that Sparta will do what it was born to do=conquer the Greek world!

By the way it usually took 2-3 days at the most to cross the Aegean although bad weather could interfeer with this during the winter and spring seasons from what i have read from various books and ancient texts.

Perhaps ships that sit X tiles away from the shore for longer than 2 turns could suffer attrition. Makes sense, although I am not sure how that could be modded.

you did well ROFL,it is a good question on how to deal with ships
afcourse factions like athens, ionia, carthage, rhodew and korinthos will have preferred naval invasions.
