I sallied enemies and used my bombards to get 20% kills then I exit, it doesnt say u successfully sally een though all troops are in. and then I lose tons of my troops and a general.
is sallying removed?

No, but if you exit the battle before the matter is fought to conclusion you lose. Did you not notice the message "if you exit the battle now you will lose"? You don't get to sally and then not fight the battle.

Yeah, in the game you can't have small sallying raids. When you sally, you have to win.
Actually, you can do what he's saying, I've done it sucessfully.
The time I did it I sallied out, and of course the enemy dropped all their siege equipment and ran backwards into a defensive formation. I used my troops to smash their ram and then went back into the castle, pressed exit and it gave me a message saying something like "you have successfully sallied, do you wish to end this battle?" I pressed yes and it came up as a draw.
That was vanilla.

Uhhh, you could sally and leave in vanilla, I'm just saying that they removed it. Thats why I said its been removed.
I used to do that with mongols with my cannon towers, in vanilla and sally and then use cannon tower to attack them while they in def position. and they stay there after an hr they lose ~800 troops and they no longer siege the next turn.

You have to kill a certain percentage, only then you can retreat (exit battle) without losing the battle. When you exit it will show either two of these messages:
1) If you exit now you will lose the battle. Exit now? -> You didn't kill enough enemies.
2) Your sally was successful and you may exit the battle. Exit now? -> You killed enough and may leave the battle.
I think it will also let you if you haven't killed any but destroyed their siege equipment, as above.
So is frederickm right? Is that option no longer available in SS? If so, I wonder how it came to be so. Purposefully or inadvertently?

when i destroyed the enemyies seige equipment, which was only a single ram they had no way of entering so the game gave me the victory screen automatically
Uh in the original game I could kill 0% and quit my sallying
I'm just wondering why its removed

From the responses I think you either have to kill a certain % of enemies, or destroy the siege engines, so they cannot get into the castle.

If you get the "If you exit, you will lose" message - just return your men to the city/fortress after you have completed your sally, jump the speed to 6, and let the time run out. You will not lose any troops by doing so.
A lot of people, myself included, turn timed battles off so that's not an option.
It looks like we need to do some sallying testing, comparing vanilla with SS and seeing which situations allow you to quit the battle and not loose the settlement.
Although I very much doubt that SS could "turn off" that function, if anything turned it off it would probably be kingdoms.

I used to play with time off, but it adds a certain realism to the game. It represents your forces getting wiery and disheartened, and pulling back, no matter what the generals are screaming at them. In most medieval sieges fierce fighting did not last long, especially in sieges. Pitched battles would last longer, providing well disciplined veteran troops on both sides held their lines a battle could last a few hours, max.

I do timed because I don't like it when my enemy sieges me and attacks then waits outside forever.

When I sallied I always let the timer run out and ended with a Draw
