It's like the Boston Massacre. One side says the soldiers fired upon civilians and uses the word "massacre". The other says the "civilians" were a threat to their troops. Neither side is right, neither side is wrong.

Depends on if those American "civilians" were actively participating or involved in terrorist activity inside Syria.

The Syrians in question were not terrorists, 4 of them were children.

Even if they were children, they were not the intended target. And all civilian casualties should be investigated to avoid future mistakes. But it is not unjustified to raid border territories if you have enough evidence that enemy fighters were using it as a refuge. If it was a attack on Damascus, then i wouldn't agree.
