Palin pipeline terms curbed bids

As far as I understand this, Palin as a govenor had the contest made in such a way as to help the TransCanada company win, because it had ties to her administration.

However reading the whole thing, it doesn't seem so shady a deal to me. OK, perhaps she favored a bit the company she was friends with, but I don't believe she purposefully crafted the competion in such a way as to make sure this company would win. Nor that she got money from the company to help them.

Did she wasted taxpayers money? That company X has a bit more expensive plan than company Y doesn't mean it's worse. It may be actually better.

Perhaps she indeed wasted money, perhaps not we don't know. We cannot know since many other companies weren't allowed to participate. That's the real problem here. That we cannot know what other companies would offer.

The AP article is working backwards to a preset conclusion. All successful bids are in part successful due to the terms of the bid being a better fit for the company making the successful bid. There are only a few companies that can even undertake this task under any circumstances and TransCanada is clearly the leader in this area. Any bidding regime would favor pipeline companies with experience in northern climates -- this is not a Texas pipeline btw. In short -- this is a story about nothing. Without more substance -- there can be no real discussion.
