windowed mode
is there any way to run ss in wndowed mode?

Yep.
Open the medieval.preferences.cfg file, and make sure it is not "Read-only". At the end of the Video section, put a new line, "Windowed = true". Save the file, then make it "Read-only".
You should be good to go.

ok thx for the reply but now my preferences keep resetting them selfs things like watch ai moves and veg. detail unit detail??? wtf

It's easier to enter the desktop while windowed. Some people just like the way it looks. As far as performance, it will actually decrease performance because of the desktop being loaded and the game running at the same time. Unless you have plenty of memory, I wouldn't suggest it.
