Well, from what I gathered, the US government bans ALL US companies from dealing with ROSOBORONEXPORT. Unfair trading practice? Yes. This is not a decision agreed on by all US companies.

Under the sanctions, which remain in place until September 2010, no US government department or agency can have dealings with the affected companies. More than 50 companies have now been targeted for sanctions by the United States for arms dealings with either Iran, Syria or North Korea.

Nothing about US companies not being able to have dealings, though how many US companies want to buy Russian weaponry is up in the air...


And since when do companies in a country have to agree when that country sets sanctions?

The sanctions would discourage certain British or American companies from engaging in projects and deals with Russian companies that specialize in military hardware. While the deals are very few, they do exist - I believe there's a deal between the Royal British Navy and the Russian Black Sea Fleet, where the russian navy bought the Panther Plus for the support ships.

Anyway, this deal increases tension for no particular reason - Russia won't all of a sudden cut ties with Iran or Venezuela. It is also unjustified and hypocritical. In these hard times for the US,they don't exactly need another Cold War - Russia as well.
