    Default McCain: Our Leonidas

Okay, I don't want to sound corny or anything--and I don't think McCain is the Messiah (as a lot of libs think Obama is). But the character Leonidas from 300 really does remind me of McCain, at least in some ways. Both are fairly advanced in years. Both had already served, fought for, bled for, and led their country in the past. Both faced enormous odds...Leonidas against the Persians, McCain in his campaign. Leonidas almost won, and we have yet to see whether McCain will win. Let's give this man a break, my friends. Even you liberals--you've got to admire him for sticking to his guns and fighting on.

What do you all think of the McCain-Leonidas comparison? I just thought I'd mention it.

It's really not very accurate. Forgetting that most liberals don't consider Obama to be the messiah, McCain has never really led his country. McCain hasn't really faced any greater odds than any other underdog in an american Presidential election. Leonidas didn't come close to winning, while McCain may still win. And no, he doesn't get a break. If he can't take the heat he shouldn't be running for the highest single-person office in the land.

And no. We don't have to admire him. For anything.

Let's think the unthinkable, let's do the undoable. Let us prepare to grapple with the ineffable itself, and see if we may not eff it after all.

I think that's what he wants to do so he can make Obama look worse in his own mind.

You guys are bashing him for bashing someone. Does that irony strike anyone?

I can see some parallels but they kinda a stretch, definitely not on the scale you are talking about. He isn't fighting to death for one. Also however bad Obama may be, he will not destroy the country, although he could definitely cause lots of trouble.

Is it me or is Obama really a lot like Gandalf from LotR? I mean. Gandalf slays big Balrogs and Obama debates with politicians. And Gandalf shines light from his staff and Obama promises change. Also, Gandalf says some really wise things sometimes and so does Obama. Gandalf also has a hearty laugh and so did Obama at the Al Smith speech when Sauron, err... I mean McCain spoke.

No need, as soon as I saw the title of this thread McCain was Xerxes in my mind. You know, rich and elite. Daddy was even more famous so Xerxes had a grudge to bear. I'll betchya Xerxes even cracked up 5 chariots too.

i sense somehow that serving in the military giving McCain automatic credential for be a great leader?
that's again pretty stupid. It might be a good experience, but it's not guarantee of terrific leadership at the time of crisis.

He knows more than any other president about how to crash a plane though. That's gotta count for something.
