Default Which factions to get best experience of XGMD

    Hey guys,

Well, finally reinstalled the game XGMD like I promised I would do.
When I first tried out this game few weeks ago, I took Ptolemaics.......but I want to choose an other faction that gives me the best XGMD experience.

    So anyone got good suggestions?

@ RedFox: When I start out this game, I will also keep a logbook with errors/bugs I encounter.

Gargantua, perhaps you could start with GCS: in this way you (i) could sample fighting different enemies; (ii) try different units through auxiliary barracks, and (iii) you will have time of your RTW life . (I play on H/H, with fatigue - on. Challenging, but not insanely difficult, and enjoyble gameplay. Although, it also depends on the faction of course.)

Nice suggestion, but I've played GCS in "vanilla" XGM before. Now I know that Diadochi is different in some ways....but what I want to know is first, are they much big differences then the GCS in XGM?

I also read about your "Battle of Ascalum", Magister. So what about the faction Epirus? You mention its one of the highlights in XGMD.

For now, I keep GCS in the back of my head.....until another great suggestion comes up. ( I might even start several campaigns just to get diversity and double entertainment )

well the GCS get more territory ie Massilia and Bosphoran kingdom(spelling)

and Epirus is cool to play as, severe money problems at the start, but if you take enough settlements from rome you'll eventually make money

GCS in Diadochi is quite a different from GCS in vanilla. It is similar to indi Greeks in XGM, spread all over the map (as Gaunty mentioned). Keeping all your lands is quite a challenge, and you can shape your armies very differently, as a function of unit you got in auxiliary barracks.

Epirus is palin fun and very challenging. You'll never be bored. As I mentioned already in a recent post, it is a good idea to start 2-3 campaigns and play them in parallel. The one that gives you best experience is the one to continue and perhaps see through.

    Enjoy! ME

Aedui: Gauls are really fun to run around with and pillaging/looting Romans never gets old. Their starting position is difficult, financial problems are harsh and Romans manage to send a few stacks against you within the first 10 turns. All in all, an amazing and yet savage experience.

    Pergamum:
If you like to play as a minor faction and rise to greatness, this is the perfect choice! You start with 1 city and you're at War with the Seleucids. If you decide to play it historically, then you should be able to capture Sardis in 7 years. Historically the Attalids (Kingdom of Pergamum's dynasty) were able to capture over half of Asia Minor from the Seleucids. See if you can repeat history (It won't be easy..)

Achaean League: Epic warfare against Macedon and Sparta - hell yess! If you aren't afraid of getting your butt kicked, then play this on VH/VH - I personally guarantee you will be on the edge when this campaign begins. You have NOTHING. And the enemy has EVERYTHING. Good luck - you'll need it.

    Independent Greek Cities:
Your cities are scattered all over the mediterranean, you have no central piece for your faction, your armies are puny, everyone hates your guts, your income sucks. Can you handle this? It's a hell load of fun and above all, you get Spartans! If you manage to last long enough you might as well succeed in expanding enough to truly oppose your enemies. Your armies consist of mediocre hoplite units and mercenaries.
