Default Virtual killing is still murder!

Online divorcee jailed after killing virtual hubby.

TOKYO – A 43-year-old Japanese piano teacher's sudden divorce from her online husband in a virtual game world made her so angry that she logged on and killed his digital persona, police said Thursday.

The woman, who has been jailed on suspicion of illegally accessing a computer and manipulating electronic data, used his identification and password to log onto popular interactive game "Maple Story" to carry out the virtual murder in mid-May, a police official in northern Sapporo City said on condition of anonymity, citing department policy.
I might be in trouble; I heard they're still investigating the guy I gibed in Quake deathmatch. The murder weapon, a rocket launcher, was found in my backpack which had fallen into the lava. The autopsy on the victim, 1337 $n193r, is inconclusive though as he also suffered from (nine inch) nail wounds, in addition to the rocket gibbing.

I heared something similar here in Holland.

2 guys beated someone up and forced him to give his Runescape password and so he lost his money on his account. Now the 2 guys are not trialed for beating him up but for stealing digital money.

Though the story above makes even less sense .

I presume that the issue is the destruction of (virtual) property. Or at least I hope so. I have played Combat Mission Shock Force without a UN mandate, so I could well be a virtual war criminal.

In that case, i am not a murderer.

im a mass murderer. i have slaughterd entire citys and looted and burned my way across europe in a bloody orgy of violence.

When i took the moors, and wiped out, spain, italy(first scilly then venice, then milan), france, the english, the germans, the pope(i left him be for 'special treatment'), and then wiped out the east.

My kill count is so high, they dont even have a court for what ive done..

thats actaully kinda put me in the mood...
If only i had time to play TW anymore....meh.

She should be jailed for playing Maple Story in her 40s.

    Fixed.

EDIT: I want to add that I agree that the woman should be prosecuted for this, and that the headline is deceptive and frames the subject in incorrect terms.

An hour of Total War gets you a front row seat in The Hague.

But still - the most disturbing part of this story isn't that she's being jailed for virtual murder, but that there's actually people out there over 10 years of age playing Maple Story.

She *deleted* his character, I would suppose. Not just killed it, but deleted it for ever. (Well, the server probably got a backup...)

Which is nothing like killing another person in BF2. She deleted his character and now he'll never get it back. I know I'd be annoyed (A wee bit past annoyed perhaps) if anyone did something like that when I played MMOG's!

If virtual crime is punishable, image what’s waiting for you after a domination game (with nukes) of civ 3 and 4. I’ve murdered Billions.

But i think this is about destruction of others people’s property.

Are you serious!? I don't know anything about the game, so I'll believe anything...

...now I have to look the game up to try and better understand this story...lol

    On a side note:
Is something wrong with Japanese people? I'm not trying to be funny or nothing but...it seems like all the weirdest stuff happens in Japan

-Woman lives in man's closet for months
-Man goes crazy and attacks police station with a knife (or did he drive his car into the building and then start stabbing people?)
    -and now this...
