Default The worst start with the Romans possible?

Anyway so I decide to upgrade my XGM to the recent version and try out the loyalty settings.

Rome was the first fraction I picked after not having played them before.

So first turn, I decide not to engage Phyrus as I prefer to fight on the defense. End turn is pressed hopping he will attack.

Horror of horros, the main roman stack rebels and goes over to the rebels, these then precede with Phyrus to besiege my two southen most cities and take them the turn after.

Not much I could about those cities as you have virtually no other starting troops. So I'm now down to rome and the 2 northen cities, (I nearly gave up at this point by decided to carry on for a challenge)

A couple of turns later the Rome Rebels besiege Rome but are defeated by the walls, (Are the walls specially upgraded in Rome as they seemed very deadly).

So I've now only got to deal with 2 indi greek and 1 indi Romans stacks now but have managed to get 3/4 of one myself.

Quick question how oftern do generals rebell and what loyalty *stars* is seen as safe?

Will add a pic to see later.

You must have been really unlucky.

Engaging and repelling, or at least delaying, Pyrrhus' army is almost critical in the Roman campaign.

Ow. I would have restarted. You have to be damn unlucky for that initial stack to rebel, methinks. But its good you persevered.

And BTW, rome does have upgraded walls, IIRC.

Ouch. I would bribe them back and then throw them at Pyrrhus.

Unfortunatly I don't have the money to bribe

With the defection the roman rebels doubled in millitary power.

What confuses me more is that the very first turn I play with Loyalty (ever) I get a rebellion.

Even if you have a loyalty of 4% in a settlement they might not revolt. Everything is done by chance, with an automated number generator built into the game system. You must have just been unlucky, thats all.

    i can beat it

started as the romans on h/h a few days ago

    turn 1:
the greek independet full stack army is attacking one of my cities, i was not able to attack them first because they were standing close to their city defended by a second full stack army.

    turn 2:
roman rebel nearly full stack army is attacking my second city
the greek independent are attacking the besieging city, i send my only full stack to support the 4 units in the city and beat the greek but i lose many soldiers (i hate the phalanx )

    turn 3:
the full stack greek army which was defending the independent greek city is besieging the city again.
the roman rebels are attacking the secon city, the 3 units defending it are getting slaughtered.
one full stack and one 3/4 stack carthagian army landed near rome. the full stack army is besieging it while the 3/4 is moving to the north

    turn 4:
a 1/2 roman rebel army is heading to the north
the full carthagian army is still besieging rome
the 3/4 is besiegeing the city north to rome

    turn 5:
rome has fallen to carthago (5 units were not able to defend it)
roman rebels are besieging the last free city
the 3/4 cathagian army is still besieging the city

    turn 6:
    carthago has taken another city
a greek inedpendet 3/4 army is moving to the north
    roman rebels are still besieging

    turn 7:
roman rebels has taken the city

    i am crying

maybe there was a sixth roman city which i forgot to mention but im sure you can imagine what happend.

one full stack army and 3-4 units in every city is a bit to low to withstand such an invasion

When start my Roman campaign I always try to defeat Phyrus first. It a hard battle but even if i can beat him (and kill him as well). My full stack always take huge damage (I hate phalanx too).To defeat him I often disband Equites unit and replace it by another general. When Phyrus everything become easier a bit.To defense cities I train as many as Velite possible (thanks gods they strong in this mod).A bunch of Velite can cause many damage before they run out of javelin and I throw them into melee combat (and get killed)

Romans are tough in the beginning.. I had endless stacks attacking me whether it was the RR, Phyrrus, Guals, Carthigians, and normal rebels. Carthage sends a stack into Italia, RR never stop attacking, rebels spawn every where and the guals up North.

The exact same thing happened to me. I send the army South to face Phyrrus and it rebels... lol

This is why i dont play with loyalty on ( playing with Greeks ), although it adds a different direction to the campaign. I just cant bare to lose stacks with great units to the rebels.
