    Icon9 Medieval II/Kingdoms 'unspecified error'

    Dear all,

It seems that I am not the only one who has suffered with this problem of experiencing CTD with the error message; "Medieval II Total War has encountered an unspecified error and will now exit"

I am playing the Britannia campaign and I have had no problems whatsoever until I reach the Turn 150 mark, and now it's a battle to get through a turn w/out CTD. I think I have reached Turn 154 but I can go no further - it automatically crashes each time I 'End Turn'.

However, I am fairly sure that I installed all the components in the correct order. I patched to 1.2, then to 1.3 and unpacked the files from the disc.

I cannot locate the 'descr_geography' files - they are not visible or simply not there (I have manually checked through every subfolder in 'Data' and also run a search through Windows). I have just installed the latest drivers for my graphics card (an 8600M GS) but this has not solved the problem.

I am running a new laptop on Vista32, with 2GB ram, 256MB GeForce 8600M GS card, and Medieval II on 1.3. I would appreciate any help because I only bought Medieval II and Kingdoms last week, and Brittania is the first campaign I am playing and I am nervous about starting other campaigns if I'll be unable to finish them!

    Sry but I am a bit of a n00b!

The geography files will be hidden in C:\*\Virtual Store\Sega folder. Make sure you unhide all hidden and system files so they'll show up.

Hi thanks for your response. I have never seen a folder called Virtual Store and I can't find one on my C Drive. I am also pretty sure that no files are hidden in the SEGA folder...

Vista there is. Read the sticky thread at the top of this page titled Total War and Vista.

Okay thanks I managed to locate the AppData folder and found the Virtual Store folder with another SEGA file in it. I still don't see any descr_geography files in the Medieval II files though and nothing should be hidden.. :hmmm:

If it only started crashing after 150 turns then it shouldn't be the good old geography files. Did you change something in the british_isles folder?
There was a problem with the script (fix in the download section, same for teutonic campaign) but that shouldn't cause CTD.

Maybe the save files have been corrupted somehow?

That is always a high probability. If you have a save from turn 140 or so, try it from there and see if it happens, again.
