    Icon7 Just to say Hi

I am new here just registered.

I am now downloading "For King and Country".

I studied the English Civil War both the political, religious nad military aspects when I was a student.

I still read and study the subject now to keep up with recent discoveries and interpretations.

I have a wall covered in books on 17th century English History so if anyone wants me to find out, look up or help in anyway please let me know.

I also hang around the Flight Sim Forums alot (Something to do with me being ex-Royal Air Force I expect)

    Cheers everyone

    Wildfowler welcome and enjoy.
AD has done an outstanding job with this mod. Thanks AD!
I quite like watching my battle replays, a troop of horse crashing into a pike block, like a slow motion train wreck is great fun!

I do have a research request, if its not too much trouble…….
I have an ancestor that I believe served in Thomas Grantham’s Regiment as a Lieutenant and may have been a Sergeant Major, one Thomas Sparrow.

Sparrow immigrated to Maryland with a group Parliamentary veterans about 1650.
These veterans included a Major Ewen and a Lieutenant Thomas.
All received fair sized land grants in Maryland a short time after being in the Palatinate.
Several became prominent in public affairs and participated in The Battle of Great Severn @ Annapolis on Sunday 25 March 1655, between the Catholic Proprietary forces and “Puritan” Commonwealth supporters.

If you have any information on a Sparrow that served with Grantham or on Grantham’s Regiment or on Officers that were sent to the colonies to “stack the deck” in favor of the Commonwealth in the Colonial Assemblies it would be greatly appreciated.

So far I have only done a little research but this is what i have so far.

There is a book entitled "Thomas Sparrow Early Maryland Engraver and Patriot" Author Carlyle S Baer. ASIN No. B0007GUN7C

That may well be the man you are after.

I know of that Thomas, Annapolis Silversmith 1770s
There is some evidence that the engraver was not of the Maryland Sparrows but came down from NE.

HEHE, it gets confusing, there are some 10 generations where the first born was christened Thomas and the second and third born named their first born Thomas as well.

Sorry, did not mean to turn this into a genealogical forum.
The history I enjoy studying most is that which I have a personal connection to.

Welcome to the forum, it's good to have another historian on board.

    Cheers
