Creating historical battle

Is there a guide anywhere on the forum on creating historical battles. I have looked on the forum and i can not see anything. I have read the M2TW manual it is very brief and does not cover how to import units and things

No, there is no such guide I'm aware of, but it's not very difficult. It's mostly intuitive, you'll get the hang of the Battle Editor after a while.

Nearly five years and I still can't get it to do what I want...

No intuition I guess..
