no console with bi+alex (and vista)?

i just bought a new pc with vista, and installed for the very first time in my life the two expansions bi and alex...but i noticed i can't open the console with \! so i tried all the keys of my keyboard, but nothing!

is it a problem caused by vista? or by bi\alex?

Have you tried pressing tilde? ~
No, console works with both BI and ALX. It might be Vista, but I have XP so I do not know it.
Did you alter the key with FRAPS or something?

Yeah, the tilde key (~) opens the console. On my keyboard, it's on the top left corner beneath the Esc key (Inspiron 1501).

Are you playing on a desktop or laptop? Laptops have it between F12 and Pause/break.
On a desktop keyboard, it is in the top left corner.

Every keyboard language has its own. The US/UK keyboards use the ~ key. The key doesn't work on a lot of wireless keyboards, too.

or better...that key isn't there at all! with our italian keyboards we press the \key (left of the 1 key) to open the games console...i uses to press it with my old desktop pc, even with rtw...and with m2tw i pressed ò...but with this notebook none of those keys seem to work!

i found some combinations to make that tilde (altgr+5, or alt+1+2+6), but they work only to write that symbol (for example in a .txt file), but not to open the console...

anyway, i have an italian notebook keyboard, i have no idea if this model has a name or whatever...i have not that ~ key, i can write it using a combination of alt+1+2+6, but this combination doesn't work to open the console. i found some information saying that that key isn't present in italian keyboards cause in our language we don't have that symbol...
but until a month ago, i always opened the game console using the \ key (which is left of the 1 key, under ESC)...well, with this keyboard that key doesn't open the console anymore! and also shift+\ or ctrl+\ don't work...

@Brusilov, apologies. I thought the UK keboard was the same. For M2TW on a US keyboard, press ` for the console of which is the unshifted (such a word?) ~, one key left of 1.

No problems.

The other year I was in Lecco for the Italian GP and used an Italian keyboard (in a hotel) to get onto the internet. There wasn't a '@' key - you needed to press a combination of keys.

Last year I took my UK laptop and using the internet was a lot easier.

Quite a few games seem to conflict with special keys and non english keyboards to my observation. If you set two layouts to keyboard there should be all needed keys, even on laptop present, i think. I for one know my regular kb has problems with games, hence i have english keyboard at alt tab away.

At least in xp like this:
Control panel-Regional and language settings-Languages-Details.
Add US english.
Key setting let you set combo that switches languages.
If you have native windows, figure it out. Not sure if exactly same in Vista.

so...i changed language through the icon in the system tray, and set it to english (usa). but every time i open a folder, a program, or anything, it goes back to italian...it remains english only on the desktop. so i went in control panel-international and language settings-administration options-change language for non unicode programs, and set it to english.

but still, can't open that ******* console!

my combination to change language is left alt+left shift...and itchanges nothing inside the game!

I am clueless then, in xp it does work inside games too.


You might get it done if you set english as default.
