Son of Simetrical
Let's hope no racism comes out of this...
My family's from South Italy so we'd better win![]()
Do Sicilians count as South Italians, God? We might want to consider letting them win, kinda like "let the wookie win". They might call a vendetta on us.![]()

It was asked in a facetious manner, lol.

Schools in north or south italy, has the same tipology of teachment.. no difference.. Maybe the structures of these buildings... high Tech in north, rubble in south...
southern Italians seemed more laid back and open, and, well...less ass hole-ish. At least that was what I got when I went there.
hardly any Italian sees themselves as such. Romans see themselves as Roman, Florentines as Florentines, Neapolitans as Neapolitians etc
your generalization on crime is equally disturbing. Hardly every Sicilian was in the mafia, my ancestors refusing several offers several times.
It would be like me hating all northern Italians because Mussolini had his start in Milan.
southern Italy has had the misfortune of being geographically easier to conquer from outside powers, thus never really developed the way the north did. That is not the fault (or not all the fault) of the local populace.

The debate is going to be appalling anyway.
Southern superiority is undefensible: the only legitimate argument (culture and art) is also false. The North has more of everything art included, it is richer and more European, it has less crime, etc.
But, the debate has also started in an exceedingly simple form. Like many debates here do, currently.
remember that the italian culture was founded in south and center italy, north was colonized by Romans and then became an advanced region of the Res publica;also during dark medieval ages, only venice was advanced as the south italy, because from naples to calabria and apulia there was byzantine empire then in sicily there were arabs who were advanced too. Instead in north italy there were lombards, before, and franks then, barbarian populations which didn't influence so much on the italian culture(and I'd say fortunately);the disparity between north and south should be searched in the '800, borbonic dynasty didn't permise an industrial development in south even if the kingdoms was rich. After the italian unity, savoia dynasty lets the south in a bad status of economy(damned king), also the great politician cavour advised to the king to develope South Italy but he didn't follow it and criminality started to spread in all regions of south:it, with the culture and mentality of southern italian people, became a dangerous phenomenon called Mafia.
I hope that you can understand my message, despite my bad english![]()
South Italy of course!!!
In south the people are friendly, the sea is beautiful, the food is fantastic and the south was the most part of italy in the past.
North became important after Cavour![]()

Superficially so. Sometimes exceedingly so. To the point of being embarassing.
Yes it is: a merit of mother nature though.
Just like everywhere else in Italy.
I suspect this wasn't taught in an Italian school, you see.
mmm the debate was a bit simplicistic, to the guys doing the battle i advise to collect a bit of data to make the fight really interesting
From the point of view of culture both part of the peninsula were important in different historical periods, with the north having a more important part from the Rinascimento period and later.
A thing that must be clarified to our non Italian friends however is that Italy is often divided in three areas, North, Centre, and South, not simply North and South.
Infact if we consider Tuscany part of the north for example that tip the cultural balance a lot.
aren't you of Italian ancestry thought? And even if obviously an Italian will usually know the local history/culture better any contribution is welcomed.
Ciao sud commander, well for food it's good all over Italy, one of the amazing things of our country is that each region have his delicious local foods, and if we really have to make a ranking even if i'm from Roma i have to be honest and pick Emilia Romagna
The sea is beautiful in Tuscany, Sardinia and Liguria too, not just in the South, even if there are beaches in Sicilia and Calabria that are truly amazing.
ugh, how dare you davide!!
Remember Fratelli D'Italia:
"E schiava di ROMA iddio la creò"![]()
Venice is easily in the top five of the most beautiful Italian cities but no one can beat Roma![]()

We might go back to 10500 BC and ask the supposed Atlanteans what they thought of southern Italy as well?
