Default Question about trade in EU:III

Trade is something I've often ignored, no matter what faction I am. However, I currently find myself in a position where I might become bankrupt as Tyrone... I have 5 merchants in Lübeck, they're taking out 41 gold out of 561. What am wondering is, where in the name of the flying Spaghetti monster does those money end up?

It says I earned 30 gold on it last year, but I don't really see those money...

The money you earn in trade goes directly into your monthly income. Which means that, if you don't mint (i.e. move the 'treasury' sleader to the right), it is directly invested in technology (which is why you don't 'see' the money coming into your coffins).

Trade is such a big opportunity for you to make money in, it's best not to ignore it. Take "Shrewd Commerce Practice" as national idea if you feel you can't compete and try to get your merchants in every profitable trade centre. It really helps your income hugely and makes it possible to advance much faster in technology.

Wow, thanks! This explains why Gotland and Venice *always* compete with me in tech!

I'll have to start a new game now though

I did use merchants a lot in my France game, but silly me went around embargoing everyone I felt like (Well, if they're not contributing to my COT's they can GTFO.) which made my TE drop to the bottom...

Trade is VERY important, when I learned how to use it properly I became a much better player.

Playing as Mecklenburg atm, and am having 5 merchants in every center except Alexandria. It's great. Year is 1483 and I will get monopolies in a year, as well as I have advanced soldiers etc.

Yep, as tiny Holland, trade gave me enough income to destroy my neighbors, maul France and be on my way to blobdom

For mercantile countries though, it can take an awful lot of time and money to get merchants in place and once there, they're likely to get whacked.
