    Default Generals

Im wondering if there is a way for me to get some decent generals. I understand that the game has been changed so that the AI has an advantage but having all zero star generals is kind of crap. It took me 2 stacks of elite Novogorod units to take a city with a stack of frigging spearmen and woodsmen. I dont need 10 star generals but some 5 stars would be nice. Maybe anyone has any ideas on how to train htem up and I dont want to go chasing rebels around either If there is a way to make military academy, schools, univercities give stars let me know. Ill edit the files myself.

    Thanks

    P.S

Im playing on H/VH with XBAI (which is incredible btw)

im personally happy with the star system. Sure, it takes a while to get a good general but when you do get one then hes that much more special.

Training kids in a castle gives them up to 2 stars btw. Otherwise some land titles such as Anjou i think gives a command star. also Lord high marshal ancillary.

In my AAR for example i stole RObert plantagenets from england as france and he went from 2 stars to six stars so far from titles and winning good victories.its been about 20 turns but still, it takes time.

The best way is battles , battles and again battles ! This will help for sure and if you lead smaller forces against large enemy's armies you will gain stars even easier. Heroic battles gives some nice traits for generals

so i dont need schools or anything? i look through descr_character_traits file to see what gives starts and military education. So if i put a military inclined kid into a castle he will learn and get some stars, however there are 5 levels of military education how do i get those? master military education gives +3 stars i think but how do i get it?

Well that could be it. When playing with byggs army supply don't stay out in the field to long for your generals will run out of supplies and may get sick which can cause a loss of command stars. Also, there are more penalties for certain actions with this on. It makes the game more challenging a strategic and such but it will wear on your generals. Look at your generals card and see if they have any penalties against them.

Yeah they always do actually. Which is one of the reasons but there are also 4 levels of military education which nobody seems to know how to get. Master Military education gives you 3 stars but how do i get it?

Ive had a +2 command military education by having an intelligent military minded kid in castle for his education. I think it can be very luck of the draw but the smarter youre general is the higher he is likely to go, also i seem to find fortresses and citadels work better than castles but that could also be due to other factors

The Master or the advanced military training depends on your luck,

Stick them in a fortress obviously, Advanced has 3% chance of occurring, while Master only has a 1% chance.

For every 100 Generals you get from the age of 14-16, only 1 of them will receive the Master 3 star trait.

The easiest way to get a general that is somewhat decent is defending a siege for me, pack your heavy in the path before town square, receive heroic victory. Repeat.

Also you said you lost quite a bit of your army taking over a town, I am assuming you used the battering ram. Then you poured your units into a huge melee, trying to break through the gates. Players suffer a huge casualty when attacking a defense settlement, I suggest you to either camp and wait till their food runs out, or you have to take the walls.

The easiest way to take over a settlement is to either have siege engines or dump your infantry on their walls instead of the gates. It's cheating since AI is just terrible at sieges.

No mate, never used battering ram. Shot holes in the walls with canons then on the way to city square got pounded. If you use XBAI for your battles you will see what im talking about. The PC sets up a pretty cool formation in the middle of the castle, he doesnt waste much effort fighting on walls. It all came down to morale. My elite troops ran away from his woodsmen and spearmen
