Alright i just hit the marian reforms and i can recruit Praetorians and legionnaire cohorts but i cant find out how to recruit first cohorts, is there something i need to do to get them?

Actually I can recruit early legionnaire cohorts and legionnaire cohorts in Arretium =). But it seems only there

Yeah, you must be in control of Rome to be able to acquire them freely. Otherwise, you jus thave to comply with Senate wishes to get them as a reward.

Personally I dont bother with them. Sure they give you a nice moral bonus. But they are too much hassle to purposly train up. If I have them I will use them. If not, its back to massing the good old legionary cohorts!

Okay, when I was playing an SPQR campaign in version 1.0 vanilla, I was unable to recruit these. Sorry if this is a noob question but you may take note that this is my first post on these forums, so...yeah, anyone have any ideas as to why I couldn't recruit them in Rome as SPQR after the Marian reforms?

Aretium is first capitol of the Julii faction, then later you can move it somewhere else, I opt for Massilia.

It may just be a bug; try updating to 1.5. The official total war website should have the patch.

Thanks for the welcome, and yeah, I had all building upgrades, but it was probably because it was version 1.0. I've patched it now, so if I ever decide to go back to the campaign, I'll find out for sure. As for right now, I'm going to start a nice Armenian campaign...never played as a northeast faction before.

Hah right now I have an army that is solely comprised of Horse Archers, unless you count the revered general, Aramu, who, being the Faction Heir, has returned from campaigning in Arsakia and Campus Sakae to Artaxarta, where he will take over after the current faction leader's death.
The army proved extremely effective, and I won a no-casualty victory with it (on Easy, lol).

Another army won a decisive and important victory in the mountains north of Susa against Parthia, led by a general who was not of noble birth, but had rather married a noble daughter. He will be richly rewarded with the position of Governor of Susa...he should be honored.

And meanwhile I prepare for the invasion of Pontus, for an army is currently being trained at the city of Kotais, that will be led by the extremely promising young general Aram, a man of noble birth and three command stars with little to no battle experience (at most he has the trait that gives +1 command from battle; all other command giving traits are from birth).

And now, typing this, I realize that I am completely hijacking this thread with my antics. And with that, I regress...

Sextus Molestus, can you tell us which mod you are playing? Sounds like you have factions that I cannot find in vanilla.

What factions would that be? He only mentioned Pontus, Parthia and SPQR. All vanilla factions... Plus he actually says he's playing 1.0 (vanilla).

I have and only faction I encountered there was Pontus. Maybe by the time I get there Parthia already gets destroyed.
