    Default Traitorous scum Generals.

I had generally thought that as long as I kept a general with my troops at all times, they would not turn rebel. Annoyingly, I also greatly enjoy carefully nurturing my troops up to 3 Gold chevrons ... even if that means a long march back to my citadels to retrain them.

You can probably imagine, therefore, my... disappointment... when 4 units of gold chevronned chivalric knights. 3 heavily upgraded heavy infantry and two pavisse crossbowmen decided to go native in the course of my long-awaited grand offensive.

To get them back, I had to kill the rebel general and pay a bribe to his successor captain to get my troops back. (9 units).

Now, without looking at the answer, anybody care to guess what that cost me..? :hmmm:

why would you pay that much for 9 units?!
I would have completely crushed them with another army for being so ignorant as to rebel.....

I think you missed the part about 3 gold chevrons, and probably the best weapons and armour available since they were retrained all the time.

Haha, I have the same habit and had a similar problem once. I like to take my campaign real slow and usually only have 2-3 uber-experienced armies running my entire war, so woe it was when my faction heir (!) rebelled and took with him 2 English Knights, 2 DEK, 1 Armored Swordsmen, 3 DFK and 4 Yeomen Archers, all with the latest armor upgrades, weapons bonus and exp ranging 3 silver to 3 gold.

First I had to assassinate the traitorous schmuck, then sent over my best diplomat from all the way in the Byzantine empire to try and bribe them back, but they just wouldn't agree. My coffers are usually overflowing with cash, and I was willing to pay any sum to get my men back, if only they were willing. However, after 10 or so turns negotiations led to naught and it was with a heavy heart that I brought over my two other super-armies and was about to wipe the floor with the rebels when they suddenly agreed to join for a meagre sum of ~500,000 florins

After that my troops only accompany my most loyal generals or fort-hop from settlement to settlement.

I send another assassin to kill the captain

    EPIC FAIL

I send my worst diplomat in the area (he has the -1 influence but +5% on bribes trait) to bribe him

I keep my generals loyal to me.

Heck, I won't send them on campaigns unless they are 5 loyalty and young or older and 7 loyalty

Also having pure chivalry in my family works well, I actually could never have a guy who was dreadful stay dreadful! Proof: King Rufus, Lord of Terror... 2 chivalry

You may want to work on either chiv or dread. A general with high of both isn't very useful sadly.

I hate it when they rebel. I remember playing as the Turks, and I had conquered the bottom half of Italy.

The Pope just kept sending wave after wave after WAVE of troops at me, and I sent up full stacks of men to assist my besieged cities. After I beat them off, I decide to take my best and attack Rome, finally.

    What happens?

    The stinking rebels.

The best way to treat rebels is with impalement - the Vlad Dracul way!

If you've got money to burn and a low loyalty general, make him build a fort at the end of each turn. They won't rebel when in a fort, I think.

that is right in forts they don't Rebel but they can get Bribed by another factions diplomat due to the fact that his loyalty isn;t good it should be easy for the other faction to do so

I know it wasn't an efficient use of the money - but we all know how it is. After 20 turns-or-so the game is usually over as a contest. I just hate losing units.

I always keep marauding armies with at least 2 family members, usually 3. They keep each other loyal. All three will never rebel and so that means none will since parts of armies dont rebel. Plus I wont adopt or have anyone with less than 4 loyalty. And if they do have less and decent then I put them in cities, otherwise they go after rebels and pirates...all alone.
