    Default Blood on horses

    I dont know how to use photoshop so I cannae make the wanted changes so to have blood on horses when they are hit; It looks not very real when riders are covered by blood and their horses remain normal... I am not sure, but I think the only thing needed to be done is add red color to the blood textures. I tried to replace the dirt file by the blood and as a result the horses get red, so it should work by adding red color.

    So please, can someone test it ?

    That's not how you would go about doing it. Blood is an overlay texture; it goes over the original texture. I don't think that what you are trying to do is possible.

    This is not possible. All you can do is change the overlay image. You cannot change the positions to which the game angine will apply the overlays. You could try adding blood textures right onto the horse textures, but then the horses would come into battle bloody.

    you could paint it on using photoshop.

    Krycek, as I said befor,e that would not work because it is upto the game engine to place the blood overlay on the horses, and the game engine is not configured to do so.

    when I replace the dirt by the blood file, the horses as well as their riders, after sometime in battle, are covered with blood. I did it to check how it looked like, you can see a screenshot on this post : http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=114799

    So why not use this dirt file, open it in photoshop and just change the color of the dirt by the red blood, then save it as the blood file ? This really should work, it is just that I don't know how to do it in photoshop.

    No. That will not work, as the game applies dirt textures as people get dirty i.e. as the battle progresses. You would see blood get splattered on as if it was mud. That wouldn't make sense.

    as you write , the game applies dirt textures as people get dirty i.e. as the battle progresses, in a same way it applies blood when they are hit. So if we add red to the horse part, then the riders and their horses should get blood.

    I don't see your logic here. The blood is not stored in the unit texture. It is its own texture. There is no way to make the game apply it to mounts.

    thank you a lot for your time trying to help me understand.

    Could you please change the color in a DIRT FILE from the grey of the dirt to some red kind of blood and send it to me ? This is what I can't do because I don't have photoshop and I wouldn't know how to do it, even though it is just replacing a color and saving back to the texture file.

    While changing the dirt texture to blood would make horses appear bloddy, it would still not work correctly. The "dirt" would still be applied when soldiers are supposed to look dirty, such as when they walk through mud. So you could send a unit through mud, and they would look bloody even if they haven't fought yet.

    What if we take 'dirt and blood 1' for example and rename it dirt 3, then we make the necessary changes so dirt 3 starts appearing on units after the longest possible time on the field, except for the horses, for them I would let it not after long, blood 1 is really just small bits of blood, it could be blood from past battles like or little scratches in melee, anyway very low, but present. Details ! In the original game, horses and their riders are the first becoming dirty, so there is a way to alter the time before it happens. What is the file and what to change ?

    i read about a mod that made changes at the rate at which units get dirty etc. Isn't that it ?

    All that it does is changes the textures. Or does it? Now that I think about it, I think that this may be able to be edited in the descr_geography_new.txt.

    there is a new mod here, i know not the name, but i read it changed the blood, snow, sand, dirt etc textures, and also this feature. You can ask him.
