Default What Difficulty Do You Play?

I've been balancing the barbarian factions using the Hard campaign difficulty. Partly because that's what I like to play and partly because I find the more aggressive rebels make them more useful as a game feature.

It occurs to me, it would be good to know what difficulty others play. So, without further ado, here's a poll. (I used Medium as the minimum difficulty since I figure most people playing a mod of a mod are going to be playing at least at that level).

I cannot vote, so I'll post. I play battles on Medium always and campaigns on Medium most of the times. I've tried campaign on Hard a couple of times and I like the increased challenge, but sometimes the number of battles per turn takes away form the pleasure. I guess I'm happy with either M/M or H/M.

Depends on the faction... Civilized always on H/M but barbarians on M/M. Since you're balancing barbrians, I voted for M/M

Either M/M or H/M, depending on how tough the faction is.

I´ve tried playing compaign on medium and found no resistance from AI at all, so it got bored ( i do hate the fact, that even the richest AI factions do get 5k(?) per turn support credits, but without them, barbarians are to weak ).

Playing battles on medium gave me easy victories, while i was fighting manualy ( and there were much to short, because of fast AI armies routing.. ), though the autoresolve fights were more realistic, as well as naval battles were. But...the ancillaries and traits were also too easy to gain, so i changed back to hard.

So, since i can´t vote, its H/H in my case.

Btw: did you guys changed something about retinues in ExRM? I ask, because my family members seem not to gain more than 6 of them, while sitting in a city - the only ones above 6 are gained, wenn i do some actions with them by myself ( hiring mercs or spying that long, so my faction leader gains the spy master retinieu ). IIRC that wasn´t the case in RTR ( or vanilla ).

It won't let me vote either. I always play on Medium/Medium. I do not want any either me or the CPU to have any advantage. Thanks.

Yes, we did do something about retinues. The max that a character will automatically get is 6, although they can have up to eight. This is so the Roman leadership mod works.

I usually play M/M. I occasionaly play M/H to make the battles a little more difficult though. To me if you turn campaign on hard, the enemy seems to have a rediculous number of armies, which after a while just starts to get boring. And on a very few occasions I play E/E and use cheats...it's just fun once in a while to conquer the world in like 15 years lol.

If you want to win fast, then go the descr_strat.txt and put all cities under your faction. Also remove some enmy armies and add some to your empire.

You will have won even before you started....

VH/M. Without the $10,000 bonus AI is as good as dead!

For me it has to be M/M, no advantages. I've had a go at some of the other settings, and did not enjoy the game as much frankly.

I've been reading the posts here, so please post if you don't have the requisite 40 posts to be able to vote.

I'm surprised by how much spread there is in the difficulties used. When working on balance, I'm going to have to spend more time looking at progress for M, H, and VH campaign difficulties. :hmmm:

Well, i took a look at the moral settings for several units and now i think i do understand, why the standard warband troops of gauls and illyrians easiely can stand up against highly trained and disciplined roman and greek units

A little question besides: why does a normal gaul warband got a higher moral setting then choosen spearmen? i thought, the nobles suppose to be an elite unit.

my conclusion for the difficulty settings is: playing anything beyond medium is kind of masochism, but nevermind, we all have our foults
