What makes you think conscripts are ill-trained? If needs be conscipts can be just as good, as well trained and as well equipped as volunteers. :hmmm:

My country uses conscripted soldiers and I know many. I will be drafted as well in two years when I finish university. You just can't get the same training with a professional in 2 years or less (in my country it's 18 months). Equipment means of you can't use it.

Try to imagine the average guy, give him some basic training and put him in an environment where he has to worry about snipers, trapped doors, cars, children toys and people that blow up. He will snap very quickly and its only natural. Professional forces, carriers and nukes made US a super-power not the "Grand American Spirit" bs.

This Crusade for freedom has made the world a worse place than it was. Afghanistan was a just war for me, but Iraq was a massive joke. Killing Saddam just means another will try to take his place after you've left. And you seriously think you can take Russia? They have nukes, and they service oil to half of Europe. You go to war with them, and Russia will force the Europeans to make a choice between you or oil. The latter they need a lot more in places like Germany.

While I approve of more money for the upkeep and modernization of the army, a draft doesn't quite cut it. There are tons of militaries that have millions of soldiers (i.e. Vietnam, Iran) but most contain militia-like units who aren't likely to make the next day. Although the United States has the means to equip these soldiers and that all new recruits will get experienced sometime, I still believe that the military isn't in dire need of more soldiers at the moment. Iraq and Afghanistan are somewhat struggling, however America has a few million troops elsewhere on their mainland and over Europe. So all in all, no draft but perhaps introduce a system like that of the farming centuries ago where some fields were plowed while some remain barren, or for a military translation have them have tours in which they spend time in Iraq but come back home and then again some time later. Like a cycle.
