Help: Can't start Imperial Campaign & more!

Rome Problems
Both these problems accure on/with my Rome game and I did used to have Rome working perfectly, until I uninstalled it.

Problem I

Everytime I play Rome, I can easily start it up, play the Prologue version but when it comes to starting an Imperial Campaign, it just won't work. I'll select a faction that I want to be (bear in mind I haven't tampered with the descr_strat file, so no modifications have been made) and once I click Start, it simply, quits Rome, and brings my back to my desktop!

Problem II

I have fully installed Rome but now want to add patches yet when I try to start the v1.3 update it comes up with a message. Look at the images and text in the spoiler below.

I don't know about the second one, but for the first one, I'm quite sure it's something that's gone wrong with your files. Have you tried the "show_err" switch?

To use the show_err switch, find your RTW shortcut and right click on it. Go to the bottom of the list and click on properties. A little window should pop up. In the centre of the window, there should be a line called "Target", which says something like:

"C:\Program Files\Activision\Rome - Total War\RomeTW.exe"

It might not be exactly like that, depending where the RTW is installed. Anyway, go to the end of this line, and add " -show_err" without the speech marks so it looks like this:

"C:\Program Files\Activision\Rome - Total War\RomeTW.exe" -show_err

Be sure to include the space between the end of the line and the - . Once you have done this. Click OK, and then start up RTW. When it crashes, a little window should pop up saying what's wrong with your files.

clearly a re-install is the way to go as it should install a fresh un modded copy on your computer, if that fails then buy a new copy as I suspect that there are problems witrh your disk
Having said that try Xaviers method first as he generally gets it right (apart from exterminating his cities all the time)

Have you changed the compatibility of it in the properties? that could have something to do with it.

Well, the first line of your post gives it away. Do a complete reinstall (and by this I mean a manual uninstall, don't trust the RTW uninstaller. You can find instructions to do this here: http://shoguntotalwar.yuku.com/topic/11047)

If the problem started with a new install, you've probably got remnants of the old install (windows is bad at that stuff) or a corrupt new install.
