Colin Powell expected to endorse Obama

Powell is expected to make the announcement tomorrow. Do you think this will have much of an impact at this point? It's kind of late in the Game. This would have been huge in early September but now, it doesn't seem like it will change much.

Just calling it now if he goes Mccain he will be totally demonized...

They're not the best investment these days from a long term standpoint going back. I think they are in good shape going forward. They're in the housing market. I do think their prospects going forward are very solid."

If Powell had cared about being demonized he would not have been the highest ranking African-American male ever to serve in the U.S. Government for the GOP. So I can't see that really being an issue for him. I mean he's been endorsing GOP candidates his entire career. If anything, for him personally, I imagine endorsing Obama would be more difficult and that's probably why he waited to give his endorsement.

It will be a significant impact. The one talking point McCain had going for him was foreign policy, built on the foundation of (to him) his exemplary military career.

To have one of our most respected military people, and then later Sec of State, AND a Republican, to endorse Obama is especially noteworthy.

Obama must include Powell in his cabinet, preferably vice president but since its impossible then foreign minister should be enough.

I guess you didn't see his VP pick, Joe Biden, let loose on Palin today when she announced she was "happy to be in a part of the country that was pro-American"?

    Maybe Sec of Defence.

I don't know why Powell is still admired... even after he willingly lied to the American people, he still gets off easy. Perhaps its his coolness. Perhaps his blackness. Perhaps both.

He had a wonderful military career. His one mis-step was in his loyalty to his Commander in Chief. It's truly a tough one to call, especially for someone with a military bearing.

His one "misstep" has caused the death of hundreds of thousands of innocent people.

If I ever met Powell, I would spit in his face.
    The guy is disgusting.
He's not human, he has no soul, no sympathy, he's a sick psychopathic killing machine.

Well, I was very disappointed in him for that also. But I've explained earlier WHY he did what he did. And you also don't know just how many "facts" he was getting from Bush-Cheney-Rumsfeld to distort his perspective on the reasons to being that war.

    Its his intelligence.

Sorry. Biden is a VERY capable VP pick. The strongest choice he could make imo.

And I somehow don't think 2 black folks on the same ticket would work this first time around, do you?

Well, since the beginning of US history the VPs are never meant to be 'back-up president'. They have always been electoral tool. Imagine if JFK picked another Catholic as VP ...

Well Powell was recently filmed onstage "gettin' his grove on" with Kanye West.

'Course. He's like if Lando Calrissian had served in the Imperial US Army and bureaucracy.

to me this seems like a sort of spiteful play to get back at the gop for allowing bush to make him into a scapegoat. always figured those high end military types are repub/conservative to the bone but i guess there are a number of situations, like his, that warrant an exception

Respected because of his long history of service, intelligence and education, and because instead of remaining with the Bush administration he resigned and never wrote a tell all book. Resign out of personal honor but kept his mouth shut to preserve his honor. Of course hes respected and two maybe he doesnt agree with mccain or respect him very much because of McCain service.
