Default Some Advice, if you'd be so kind..

I've been playing XGM for many months now, and apart from one or two minor glitches, things have been running smoothly.
Now i want to move on to play another mod, but before i do, i'd like to make sure everything is in order with my RTW.

See, i dont know whether i have this '1.5 patch' which i gather gets rid of some of the bugs and is essential to download some of the mods. Whilst i was downloading XGM i downloaded something called 'All Factions Mod for RTW 1.5 by Hader' , is that the patch or is that just a file allowing me to unlock all the factions in my RTW. And what is vanilla? Do i need it?

    Can anyone clue me in?

    Cheers!

If you played the latter versions of XGM then your RTW is patched to 1.5. Its not possible to play the latter versions of XGM without RTW version 1.5. If in doubt you can check by looking in the upper right-hand corner of the options screen (in RTW).

That isnt part of the patch. I think its a mini-mod which unlocks the un-playable factions in RTW.

Vanilla is just a term for Plain Unmodified RTW. Like vanilla ice cream, its plain, nothing added to it. Yes you need a clean unmodified install of RTW to play mods. If it isnt, then it can cause problems while playing the mod.

thanks atraps for the swift reply!
You're right, the option screen on RTW shows i've somehow managed to install the 1.5 patch. I just couldnt find in the RTW program folder.

    So RS or RTR?
Which one would be easier on my laptop, i only have 500mb RAM and a Toshiba Satellite doesn't have the most amazing graphics card.

PS. I guess i first have to ask whether i can just add mods one after the other? Do i need some kind of seperate folder for the original RTW?

I can handle anything up to 2000 units on the battlefield before it really start to lag.

Have you tryed to remove unit shadows ,lowering the settings ?
you might get a 10 thousand bonus of units no lag doing that
and the game still looks the same , obviously without shadows on buildings , and on units .

Hmm R.S or RTR well Me I play both but if I had to choose well it depends on your style/faction. R.S has a good amount of greek factions in it which is good but you also have alot of roman units as well but you have to take citys that had the legion base you might say. Where is RTR is more about the historical side of that time it good game play and has a nice feel to when you play. If i was you just read up on both of the mods and even look at others like diadochi it is a xgm mod that I love as well but look around you will find somthing.

RS has great legions and some unique factions like the Cimmerian Bosphorans, but they're greeks are.... Well, lacking. Ahistorical "hoplite" units plague they're greek rosters (the generic hoplite unit that GCS and Syracuse + others get, with phalanx capability) and there is little variety in greek rosters. I say the preference comes down to play style and 0 or 1 turn preference. If you like a fast play style, and lots of battles, play RS, but if you like slower expansion, play RTR. RTR really limits the ability to recruit units in newly conquered regions, meaning its easy to overextend your supply lines if you conquer too fast. RS is more like vanilla in that respect, you can build barracks right away in newly conquered regions and can recruit units from other cultures' barracks. If you like 0 turn, play RS, although 1 turn can be played on either mod.
