Not sure about what you mean...The Senate gives you missions, only not as many as in Vanilla RTW.

Senate gave me like 1 mission and its 190BC.

They give more if you don't do what they want (ignore the senates opinions of other factions)

Well, playing as SPQR is actually possible...you need to make some minor changes...look at Hesus Sig for a helpful link

But giving orders to the Roman faction is impossible I guess...where would be the fun in that anyway?

You can't give missions to rome even when you enable the Senate as a playable faction. Its not possible do to hardcoding and all those other fancy modding words I don't understand.

The game was not designed for this kind of stuff and modders can only work with what they got and change whatever is possible...RTW seems to be very modable but this is something never intended by CA

I'd like to know how you imagine playing the senate...would you sit in Roma and give orders every turn or would you conquer just as well?...I really can't see the point

you'd have to mod the rome faction as well because unless you did they'd never manage to beat and enemy army unless they have imperial legionnaires

this is impossible to mod with the rtw engine, even the finest modders can NOT do this
