    Default power of cavarly charge

this seem to vary quite a lot from mod to mod. in some mods cavalry seem over powered and can run down almost anything and in others it seems like any peasant with a spear can stop a charge.

My personal opinion is that cavalry should be faster and more powerful then in vanilla version for realism
and frontal charges should work something like this:

Lance armed cavalry vs non-spear or non-pole armed inf.= unit destroyed on charge, no cav causalities
lance vs militia spear inf = inf destroyed on charge and very few cav losses
lance = heavy inf losses on charge small cav losses, but if cav stay and fight they will take causalities
lance vs militia pole-arms (halberd, bill, etc...)= moderate losses on charge, moderate losses for cav, if cav stay and fight they will take very high causalities very quickly
lance vs professional pole-arms= light losses for inf, moderate losses for cav, and if cav stay and fight they will be destroyed very quickly
lance vs militia pike = few losses for inf, all cav is killed or routed
lance vs pro pike= little to none inf losses, all cav is killed or routed

short cav lance or spear armed cav vs non-spear non-pole inf = inf destroyed or routed, little to none cav losses
spear cav vs milita spear inf = very high losses for inf, very few cav losses
spear cav vs pro spear inf = modrate to high inf losses, few cav losses
spear cav vs militia pole-arms= modarte to low inf losses, modarte to high cav losses
spear cav vs pro pole-arms= light losses for inf, modarte to high cav losses
spear cav vs militia pike= little to none inf losses, all cav is killed or routed
spear cav vs pro pike= little to none inf losses, all cav is killed or routed
in melee the cav spear sould be better then the sword against inf as the long reach of the spear weil on horse back was a clear advantage

sword cav vs non-spear non-pole inf = very high losses for inf, very few cav losses
sword cav vs milita spear inf = modrate inf losses, modrate cav losses
sword cav vs pro spear inf = light losses for inf, modarte to high cav losses
sword cav vs militia pole-arms= very few inf losses, all cav is killed or routed
sword cav vs pro pole-arms= little to none inf losses, all cav is killed or routed
sword cav vs militia pike= little to none inf losses, all cav is killed or routed
sword cav vs pro pike= little to none inf losses, all cav is killed or routed

this is just my opinion and a rough guide line because of course it all varys on many things like unit xp and terrain but i would like to hear what others have to say on this topic

I'd have to agree on many of the setups here, nice job. As for terrain, I think that a lot of the stuff that would affect a charge has already been done on vanilla. Uphill should make charges almost completely ineffective since gravity would be working against the units and vice-versa; this should be at least a 80% decrease in effectiveness on units climbing hills and the opposite on units going downhill. Units with double-handed weapons should have a much greater charge than those wielding otherwise. Another thing is, the charge from a Norse Axeman should not be the same power as a charge of an elephant. I mean come on...it's an elephant. Dismounted English Knights have double-handed poleaxes, should be the same as Norse Axeman in terms of power. Thats just in a nutshell, more on this later...

I quite like this... I always thought Vanilla charges were rather frail...

Yeah I have to agree for the most part as well. Nothing more dissapointing than seeing Knights run into a heard of peasents and being nearly slaughtered..

There is one thing which does need to be remembered. Cavalry attacking from the rear or flank is going to put the number on any infantry unit that they attack.

Now the game itself may already take that into account, but it does need to be remembered.

The power of a cavalry charge is more of panic to the infantry being charged than the loss they take( because a lance can only kill 1 person at a time, unlike in vanilla it drags through and killed several men behind him). So i think if a normal infantry unit (non-super-anti cavalry aka not with polearms and pikes) formation is holding firm with shields, it should take heavy losses against a charge of heavy lancers, moderate losses against uncouched spears, above light losses against swords. Those without shield should suffer much more losses. Is it possible to cause a morale drop ( besides that caused by sudden heavy losses) after a sucessful charge?
