Hungary

Since I didn´t see any topics about tips and/or strategies for Hungary I thought I´d open a topic. I started with Hungary on VH/VH level yesterday just wanted to know what some u guys have done in order to be succesfull. I allied with Poland and also with the Byzantine Empire at first but that failed after Venice attacked and since they were a vassal of the Byzantine Empire they were soon seiging 3 of my cities. However after calling a crusade on the city Venice and taking over Zagreb Venice wanted to stop fighting and I agreed so that I could focus on the Byzantine Empire but they are really annoying, for several turns I tried to take over Sofia but everytime they manage to get a strong army next to it when I want to seige them. And on top of that I dont trust the HRE since they are not allied with any of my allies...and I need money thats why I´m now already trying to exterminate Venice by taking over their last city Ragusa (Normally Im against exterminating factions early on but right now I feel like I dont have another choice)

So just want to know what some of u other guys who played with hungary did

Hungary, well... first steps should be to secure any rebel land as quickly as possible. send your diplomat down to Rome, secure perfect relations with him then build up your economy as much as you can to enable yourself to have a large standing army for when you will get attacked, perfect relations will get them excommunicated fairly quickly then you can go and revenge them, be it HRE or Venice etc

Just keep repeating this or if they stop attacking you call a crusade and get yourself land in the East.

Well 1st i take the general above bran and go sercure isia and keiv buying all merc on the way, then i i take sofia and 1st turn take soem troops from budapest and take zagreb asap

As Hungary, both Venice and Byz will attack you no matter what you do.The byzantines field mostly weak armies with lots of town and spear militia in early game that are easy to beat.For dealing with venice i would build units in the southernmost castle, and put them on a ship to take venices island town south of your castle.After that wait for them to attack you, ally with the pope, and venice should be excommunicated soon. Also ally with Poland and HRE, neither will attack you for awhile.

As Hungary, both Venice and Byz will attack you no matter what you do.

I agree with you for the Bys. more so if you take Sofia as they tend to like that castle. But In my Hungray campaign( BTW probably the best one I've played yet) Venice were my allies because they were at war against common foe the Bys.

here is what I suggest:

1- Ally with Venice, HRE and Poland this will secure your border at North
2- Take Isia(sp) the city that is close to Bran a bit North East.
3- Take Sofia ASAP and keep it as a castle, this will be handy and an Important castle for you to keep that will play a big part of your early-mid campaign.
4- Take the city south-east from Bran ( sory don't remember the name.
5- Then take car of the Bysantines.

During my great campaign that I've finished just before the gunpowder event.
I have won by having only 15 territories?? Yeah but as my vassals territories counts in your empire I had Bysantines, the Turks, HRE(they betrayed me) and Sicily as my es they owned about 20 territories total.

Well i agree viece will alwaaaaattack you justmake sure you already ready. poland and hre almost always attack me so be prepared for a counter attack and for the turks they normaly dont mess with me after i take out the byzn but for me hunary seems to be in a terrbad spot because if you move west the milan will attack you, so the only safe thing is when poland hre and milan are all dead

Only HRE backstabed me when I was getting to powerful but ethy becamed my es not along after that

Well I´ve been allies with Venice and Poland for a while now and while Poland has been helpful in slaughtering the HRE, Venice isnt that strong anymore as the only have Iraklion. Then came the Mongols, they attacked my allies POland but by allying with the Mongols everyone was happy and so Russia became their victim. However then out of nowhere the Mongols backstabbed me and took over Sofia after they took Constantinople during a Jihad, and since they also had Kiev I had no other choice then to become their vassal for now because right now im litteraly being sandwiched by the Mongols. And since the HRE is a vassal of Poland and I dont want to ruin my alliance with Poland I'll have to turn to the Byzantine Empire, I already took Ragusa and Durrazo (trough diplomacy) now they are attacking Iasi which I wouldnt mind since its still a wooden castle and its not really useful if I want to defend myself from the Mongols there in the future, basically Im now trying to get Corinth, Thessalonica and then try to get some strong armies together and wait till the Mongols backstab me again since their diplomats are still around my cities unless I pay them money every 10 turns or so which indicates that they want to attack me. And hopefully Poland will attack the Mongols so that I can attack the HRE again (HRE is friends with the Mongols and a vassal of Poland)
