Implications of wearing your pants below your waist

Young guys around here (17-18), how many of you do you wear your pants below your waist? I admit, I do wear mine below my waist. (I make sure my shirt doesn't show my underwear though)

But how far would you "old guys" consider this is rude and it is a fashion faux pas, as some would have put it? There is increased confort (at least in my case) by wearing your jeans and pants beyond your waist.

Is it rude or is it okay to wear like this?

I started doing this when I was 15 back when Menace II society came out and hip hop was still cool and different. I liked the look and figured I could get away with it since I'm brown. I allways concidered it to be part of the whole black ghetto style wich would make you look cool and hard and more of that nonsense (yeah I was an idiot teen)

Now I don't really care, I know people do it when they have expensive designer underwear, you know those boxershorts that have this part that's suposed to stick out when your pants are below the waist and have the designer logo in huge bold letters on them? Those are ment to be shown, when I was younger it impressed me, now I think: Oh look, another insecure show off who likes to pretend he has lots of money so he can impress people he doesn't know....

Having lived in the ghetto (I guess I still do...) I can tell you that was media hype...

The kids who were dirty (doing something illegal, i.e. selling drugs) didn't wear their pants like that because it made it harder to run from the police...

All the suburban kids who saw hyped up movies started doing that stuff and...a fashion is born...lol

Other ghetto fashions:

Shoes that don't need laces: Why? Because everytime you get locked-up they make you take out your laces...if you're just going to a county/city jail for a day or two you're most likely not getting the jumpsuit/flip flops...so it's better to have shoes (in jail) that provide stability/support...you don't want to be caught up in something in jail and your shoes keep slipping off...lol

Wearing shoes without lacing them up: Why? To save time...a person may have an insignificant warrant or something and figure if they got caught they'd be out of jail quickly...lol <--- if anyone wants to look...hard...or like they break the law......wear shoes without laces...

I suppose I grew up in the 70s and 80s - 70s nothing to be ashamed of, but the 80s - pretty embarrassing - at least we pulled our pants up.

I grew up in the 80's and 90's the low pants thing started somewhere during the 90's I guess.


I had a short phase of wearing my pants like that. Then I got older and started making fun of people doing it!

One time I was walking with a friend and 2 woman walk pasts us and one had her pants extremely low, so I said in a loud voice: "Did you see that? Poor woman is so poor, she can't even afford a belt!" I've never seen someone get red and pull her pants up that fast!

It's okay to wear in any style you like. It's very rude to call people stupid or "rude" something just because they prefer different clothing style, though sometimes I do that myself too
