Default The India Nuclear Deal: Ending the Rules

"While the worlds focus may be on the global financial meltdown, the U.S and India have signed a historic deal to trade nuclear energy.

But, India has never signed the Nuclear Non-Proliferation treaty and has tested weapons in the past. So, why now is it okay to trade energy with India and not with a signatory country like Iran?"

I guess they dont realise the Nuclear Non-Proliferation treaty is Dead

    ah yes.

Its not like india has had history of building and developing nuclear wepaons.
and has never signed the now totally dead and inept NPT.
Or has a stand off with pakistan over kashmir. or has several issues with china.

    Or...

oh for gods sake never mind.

You are missing something if you think that India's squabbles with other nations are on the same level as the "squabbles" Iran and North Korea have with other nations.

India already has Nuclear weapons, and the technology to produce nuclear energy. So it comes down to three things.
    a) Let India continue to develop their own nuclear energy, and maybe more nuclear weapons.
    b) Let India buy its nuclear energy from France or Russia.
    c) Buy it from USA.
Considering the fact that lot of money was involved, its obvious why option c was chosen.

Because India has a population that needs nuclear power to progress. Limited potential for hydro development. Local resources seem to be as developed as in the developed nations.

btw -- look for the similar deal with Pakistan if they can ever stabalize a democratic government out of the hands of the military. Asia is simply a post NPT region and going back is not possible. Same with African countries.

Short answer -- NPT does not work. Russia and China are willing to allow bypass and thus it is dead. So USA cuts its own deals as well.

    ah someone got the point..

    And why is it dead?
    you ever wonder why?

    the US violated it first.
they said we're big we're strong we can do what we like.
Now everyone is getting nukes, its one of the reasons the doomsday clock is going back up again.

    my own comment

India is the next great power in a multipolar world. India is going to grow rich, so like the USA did with China, it is willing to invest and trade so it to can also reap the benefits of India's growth this time with a markedly better relationship.

Besides democrats won't allow nuclear power plants here, so we might as well export out fissile material, otherwise it will just go to waste, in a million years.

soon we going to have something like this.

Last year, the Senate passed a treaty in which India agreed to join the Nuclear Non-Proliferation treaty with US sponsorship. India would also be subject to certain nuclear inspections by the US. However, when President Bush signed the bill, he appended a signing statement which gave the president the power to change the required nuclear checks at any time without the consent of India. This was an absolutely ridiculous attempt at controlling India. The Indian parliament was planning on ratifing the treaty but pulled back once they heard of the signing statement.

Wait a minute, friend, back up a little bit here. The United States of America is bending International protocols...in favour of it's allies to further it's own interests, gain more influence and scope and be damned of the consequences?

    No way.

someones sarcasm detector is on the fritz

though not much of what you just listed has to do anything with following our own interests. And to be honest, I don't much care about "international protocol"

ehh, what is the big deal. bush just wants india there to help with a strong china. besides, it is already a nuclear power. if india's economy ever catch up to china's or american's level, think how much cheaper our products wil be!

anyone here knows why india would not sign the NPT? I can't find any reason.

“The only rule that ever made sense to me I learned from a history, not an economics, professor at Wharton. "Fear," he used to say, "fear is the most valuable commodity in the universe." That blew me away. "Turn on the TV," he'd say. "What are you seeing? People selling their products? No. People selling the fear of you having to live without their products." freakin' A, was he right. Fear of aging, fear of loneliness, fear of poverty, fear of failure. Fear is the most basic emotion we have. Fear is primal. Fear sells.” WWZ

Have you had your daily dose of fear yet? craziii
