    Default Sony Vegas Pro 8.0

Now that I have just exploded from this programm I have to ask :

Why the hell each video file I make with it is double the size of the original video ? For example I take a scene from a movie and make it a project. The movie is 1.1 Gb and the project of 2 scenes came out 2.68 Gb. I had one of 7.7 Gb combining scenes from diff movies with total duration not more than an hour. Explanation ?! Something has to be adjusted but they don't say what in the tutorials. :hmmm:

Possibly because your saving it as the highest quality possible, which is AVI I believe, try saving it as WMV9

Yeah I save it as avi. But the original file is also avi. So I cut just a piece of it and save it without any other rework and there it is huge as a fat dragon, 2 times and more bigger than the whole movie. Not to mention that the time it takes is..ughh, I can start cooking and eat the meal before it finishes.

I can only assume your saving it as a loseless format which would explain why the file size is so big.

I'm not familiar with how Vegas goes about saving things, I use Final Cut and Avid. But I can definitely answer the lossless question.

Lossless pretty much saves every frame of video as a whole frame, or uncompressed. Generally this means that for every minute of video you will get apporximately 1G of file size, so, 2 minutes = 2G of file space.

This is regardless of the original file size. It will take every poorly compressed and looking video and run it through some sort of codec (compression formula) and create a new frame. Lossless just does a lot less compression on each frame.

Sort of said the same thing twice.

When you bring the clip into Vegas, its probably creating a new clip using a lossless or uncompressed codec thus you getting the larger file size.

There should be a 'settings' option that will allow you to chose the quality and codec to use. Mpreg4, H.264, Sorensen, etc and what key frame rate you would like. Again, I'm not familiar with Vegas so couldn't tell ya where this is located.

Could you tell me in what format you save yours to look with high quality and take normal space. Cause I saw a box where you choose different formats only that it didn't say which are compressed and which not so I didn't bother to change the default.

I need a template to serve like an example.

    @Roman Clone - OK.

Hmm, when I start using Sony Vegas again (I have it but I have not used it much because of not being able to film RTW) I'll see if I get that. (I have Movie Studio.)

Again, its different for every program.

Avid gives you quality options on your import and digitize tool like 1:1 10:1 etc but the codec they use is AvidDNX which is proprietary and wraps everything into an MXF format (or wraper). Final Cut allows you to chose the codec but uses a quicktime movie format.

If I was to go low rez with Final Cut I would probably use something like Mpeg4 or H.264 but at a medium setting on the quality bar. Then there's a further submenu that allows you to detemine the quality you actually work in.

Just remember. The size you work in doesn't have to be the size you out put to. You can work in 1:1 high rez but then export out a lower rez file and even compress it for things such as DVD authoring or webhosting.

Sorry I don't have a more specific answer, but there should be something that at least asks you if you want the media to be low/medium/or high. Otherwise, get yourself an external drive and put all your media on there as you work.

OK I have saved it in wav. format last time and it came out compressed as it should

Now I cut a few scenes from 4 movies and combined them together . I'll let it make the new track whole night and when I get up in the morning will tell ya what came out. Cause it renders the new track still slow though it is normall size now Buyyee good night.

I just woke up and my project is still going... So 94% for the whole night and still not finished. Can't the fuken programm just sew the pieces together and not go through every pixel of these scenes ? What is there so much to do ? I just cut off things and clued the remaining together. It looks simple. I need a setting to evade some complex check or smth.

WHAT? What speed is your processor? for a 3.8GB file mine takes no longer then 3 minutes...

3.850GHZ duo for me, all night is ridiculous.

Well I have a 2,00 GHz ATI 3500+ processor that was considered "gaming" at its time.. Guess it's old already but still shouldn't take that long.:hmmm:
