I need to rant

For the past six weeks I have had to utilize my friends computer because my own PC a gateway that was bought in june of 06 is in the shop. Unfortunately because gateway was since bought-out, they can't get the necessary parts. This is ing I should not be penalized for this!

I don't know. Basically it would go past the start up screen then it would shut down then start up again. I'll ask the guy if he figured out. What the real problem is that the start up disk is scratched bad and Gateway has basically stopped selling products, ing s.

Your "service guy" sucks balls. And yes Gateway also sucks, and if you ask me any others too Dell, Compaq, HP, whatever with a name attached to, selling computers with used "recycled" parts in it. Yes you heard me correctly, they cheat, that's why they can keep the prices down.

Next time, find a small computer shop if you have no experience building a computer and tell them to build you a no-name computer.

Gateway rescue disk, ...whatever. That's another reason not to get anything from these guys. Installs a bunch of junk on the PC "pre-packaged" and they won't even offer the OS separately.

Those apps they put onto the OS actually goes towards paying for the OEM Windows licence that gets installed on the PC, that's why they can build these machines for nothing money with a Windows licence on them. One of the major PC retailers in the UK will remove them but they will charge you for it.

Well, look, here is the deal. Your PC most likely has either the Operating System screwed up or the hard drive, (My best guesses) . Instead of waiting for Gateway, and your dad's friend found the problem, then I recommend to get the parts (or a new OS) from somewhere, but continue suing Gateway for their lackluster behavior.

The sad news is, your HD (hard drive) will be formatted, I place my bet on this, or a new HD will have the OS on it and you might be able to access the old one to copy over your old files.

So tell your dad to ask his friend if he found out what is wrong with your PC. The worst case scenario, (new HD, new OS), you are looking about 300 bucks (winxP + new HD) and your files lost. The best case scenario, 200 bucks (new OS winXP or Vista) and your hard drive reformatted anyway.

You gotta contact MPC parts, I work for my college's tech support and we have to go through them too. Their service for both institutions and individuals is terrible so much so that we have cancelled our contract. Call them direct or get your self a lawyer and sue for a breach of customer rights

It's dirt cheap. you can get a hard drive for 40 bucks, if you don't want to go fancy and super large.
If you'd have a SATA connector, i wouldn't waste money on that junky one, I'd go for this for 80 bucks. That has enough space to store your entire life on it.

That's even easier and cheaper to replace. And you get to keep all your programs. Get a DVD/RW for like 50 bucks and you'll be set. To hell with waiting Gateway for that.

Yep, come across this before. Bought a gateway laptop a few years back, dvd drive stopped working for no reason. Gateway refused to accept responsibility and have it repaired, so I took it back to the shop I bought it from for a total refund. Gateway's customer service is **** and I wouldn't recommend their machines to anyone.

nah, didn't know that. Would have been nnice of gateway to tell me such a thing at the time. Nevermind, the laptop was rubbish anyways, I have a better one now (so far).
