    Default Dell Inspiron 13

Hi all, first post in the Basement
    I have a question:
is the Inspiron 13, with the $749 package, a good buy for gaming and modding?
    The comp is found here.
Thank you for your help, I am not techy at all.

    No,

    No,

    And,

    No!

Stay away from Dell, HP, Or any of them garbage companies and make the PC yourself. You'll save tonnes of money and also have the ability to overclock the system.

Would you want me to list some parts that would be good? I really suggest staying away from Brand PC's....

I'm pretty sure you can construct a laptop yourself on Newegg/NCIX.com and they build it and send it to your door.

    Please do list the parts!
I do not know how to build a computer...unless it is out of Lego bricks.
So Dell is a no-go? Even XPS?

XPS is alright I guess, Albeit still overpriced for what you get! And Yes, Dell is possibly the worst company you can buy from, they load your PC up with so much garbage and basically if you want topnotch performance you need to reinstall windows haha.

Umm, Do you strictly want a laptop or PC, and whats your budget?

A laptop, and preferrably less than $1000. My parents are really stingy, especially with "entertainment stuff" like comps.
    Thank you for your help.

    You call 1000$ Stingy? haha

Like Roman Said it is crap. (The Dell)

I never looked into Gateway, but their P Series Seems very well balanced, 8800 videocard is perfect for your gaming needs. 2GB ram and A great processor, and at the 999$ Mark.

It a great laptop for gaming, it can play Mine Sweeper, Solitaire and Freecall with no lag.

Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
Since your not techy there's half a chance you might not realise I was being sarcastic. Firstly NEVER buy a laptop for gaming, laptops are not suited for gaming and never will be I don't care what what specs the laptop has. Laptops are great for web browsing, presenting, homework and watching DVD's and movies, just not 3D games.

The problem is if you what to play games you need a video card, video cards need a lot of power (thus draining the battery) and creates a lot of heat that needs to be ventilated out of the case, otherwise the heat will eventually degrade the silicon chips and you will experience major issues. This is were laptops fall down, I don't know of any laptops that are effective at the removal of heat because the case is so restrictive.

If you are going to game I suggest you keep it to games of yester year i.e retro games that have a software/hardware rendering modes. I spend loads of time playing older games on my computer (Intel C2D 6400 @ 3ghz, 2Gb of ram, 8800 GT), currently I playing Populous The Beginning but I've got other classics installed such as Wing Commander 3, Thief 2, Monkey Island. Emulation is another path you could consider, if you've ever own a Mega Drive or a SNES you could consider playing Rom files.

How much is that popular laptop by Dell that offers the 8600M? That is most likely his best bet.
