    Default Trees

Anyone else hate the forests in M2TW? I actually avoid playing as factions such as HRE where I will have to fight in dense woodland a lot because you can't see a thing. The battles are so arkward, the forests in RTW were much easier to control men in.

    YES!!!

i thought i was the only one who thought this

if i was atttacked in a forest i would always deploy my troops in a clearing or something, even if it put me at a disadvantage

they pissed me off that much!!!

i cant rly rememebr trees in RTW but ill take ur word for it that theyre better

True I have the same thing.

When I do a forest fight I always lose track of my man. Without the coordination I lose many valuable units.

Yeah it's hard to control your forces in forests. Certainly in kingdoms: americas when fighting in the Mayan Jungle. You really have to use the map to find your units or the enemies in that dense jungle.

But I guess it's quite realistic that forces can't be controled that well in forests, since the generals can't give good orders because he can't see all his troops n the field.

He who wishes to command must know what it's like to obey.

IMO I like them but not in all situations. I like them when I Ambush or when defending with units that can hide.... SURPRISES

I think the trees in the TW games are just unrealistically large! But then, maybe that's just me.

Go for a walk in the woods sometime - you'd be surprised...

Or, if no woods are nearby, this'll do it

Trees are awesome, I have used them to my tactical advantage many a time. I was once serverly outnumbered by France who caught one of my generals and his army off guard, I was outnumbered 4:1 and had almost given up before starting until I noticed the large forest in a corner of the map. I deployed all my force in the forest and thanks to the lovely trees all my spearmen and infantry got a combat bonus and I think his cavalry got a debuff which allowed destory him.

It took a while but I just kept my spears in position not moving to chase the enemy and used my one unit of cavalry to intercept any flanking units. It was tough to see what was going on but it didnt really matter because I didnt need to move much so in some cases trees can really help.

I love forests, they rock! And I love the size. You can just zoom the camera around under the canopy. Though it would be a pain if they were shorter. I want to see a fight in a field of corn. Just a bunch of banners moving about.

Are you kidding me? In Rome if you chose to fight a battle in a dense forest then the trees would absolutely obscure your view of your forces unless you zoomed right up close. I hated it, and avoided forest battles because of it. They were exactly the same, and look downright crude next to Med2's diverse selection of trees and foliage. And they are spaced out more, so Rome's tree problem is gone. I'll come back in a sec with pictures illustrating my point.

You can bash Med2 all you want and say how Rome is better (quite popular these days), but trees are definitely not one aspect of Rome that is better than Med2.

edit: Yes here's what I'm saying. Here's a patch of Med2 woods. Compare this to the Rome woods and let your eyes be opened.

While I hate them with a passion, its in the same way that I hate the pope in M2TW - it adds to the challange and realism of the game. Yes, I have lost many men in forests in both M2TW and RTW, but thats just part of the fun!
Although this may disappoint some people, I am indeed alive, I just went inactive for three years.
