    Icon10 Cannon fortifications

First off I absolutely love this mod Alpha Delta, youre an absolute credit mate, been playing TW since Shogun and this is by far the best mod ever.

I was thinking about Cannons and their placement, I was wondering if it was possible to place Gabions or wicker baskets filled with earth in front of the cannons much in the same manner as the archers can place stakes in front of them.

Admittedly it may be only of use in siege battles or just for the look but I wonder is this possible and what it would entail, is it just as simple as replacing the stake models with Gabions? Im not even sure if it can be done for units other than Archers.

It may just hamper those pesky roundheads spiking my guns!

    Hi,

Cracking idea. I'll try giving artillery units stakes, if it doesn't work, then perhaps when I add snipers it could be a feature for them. Of course I'll need to re-model the stakes to be gabions, and the conversion could be a problem but it's a good idea and I'll start looking into it.

    Cheers

Caltrops would also be an idea, they were used to stop cavalry

Just while Im thinking and on a similar note but it is probably way harder and for another version or never.

Is it possible to create barricades - using the same type of stuff as the city walls, ie breakable barricades, possibly even with a mini rampart for troops to fire from??

These could be textured to represent rubble, overturned wagons etc?? When you could form lines/barricades within a city or like they used to do in sieges, form a second improvised wall beyond a breach etc.

I think it would be a good idea to make city fights more interesting on custom map but I realise that it may be beyond the Mod or even Engines scope.

Im not a modeller or mapper so sorry if Im way off on a tangent.

It's not possible to edit settlements at the moment I'm afraid.

I had a think about using the stakes system to represent gabions. It's a no-go. Cavalry will die when they colide with them and they'll provide no cover from musket fire or enemy cannon. I may aswell just include them as part of the model.

No probs AD, just brain dumping there anyway.

By the way can the stakes be made to not kill cavalry? Like Zero defence or something?

Replacing stakes with caltrops would be an idea though, and go some way to make muskets more useful without being overpowered

Heh caltrops is a great idea. You could have the gabions right next to the cannons, and tiny little deceptive metal thingies sparkling on the ground right in front of them. True enough when the cavalry would charge into Gabions they'd die, but because of the caltrops they unwittingly just trampled over.

Caltrops didn't kill cavalry though. They were a defensive measure designed to halt a wave of cavalry. In MED2 stakes will wipe out much of a unit.

All I'm saying about the caltrops is that if the horses would charge on them, they'd trip and fall as surely as if they hit a barrier of stakes. And so they (their riders) would avoid caltrops in the same way they'd avoid the stakes. In gameplay terms the stakes and caltrops can be interchangeable.

would it be possible to have a little mound of earth going around the cannon, so the stakes are raised slightly off the ground
