How do you guys survive

Hi,i'm newbie here..For ur info , recently i've played XGM ,after a months playing Roma Surrectum..The only things that trouble me a some is the economy in XGM..If in Roma Surrectum ,i can get almost 5000 dinari per turn during the early game ,but in XGM , i suffered to gain a dinari even 100 dinari per turn..After 10 turns ,my treasury is -10500...does it a bug or it is just my weak economy planning?

Unit upkeeps are high. Early in the game you need to be very careful about recruiting new units or hiring mercenaries until you get your economy onto a sound footing.

Starting positions for most factions are precarious, so get out there and conquer a couple of cities to stabilize your income. As some factions, thats impossible, so if your playing Maks and can't defeat the 3 Gallic stacks with your one, expect a few turns in the negatives. But all is not lost if you go into debt...

Well this is what I do I usally plane my cities around either millitary or income. It has it good and bad but it works I usally have more income citys than military but that is just my tasts.

At the start of a campaign, you usually start out with a full stack army. There is no way that you could support that many troops in the beginning, so what you need to do is reduce your troop levels down to a sustainable size. You can do this by disbanding some units or by fighting. Preferably you would use your big initial army to fight and quickly take over surrounding colonies.

Massive routs are preferable to extended battles where you lose a lot of men. I can pretty much shock any unit into a rout with an experienced ~200 unit general's bodyguard cavalry charge. Also note how I initially lost 200 men in the heat of battle, but about 100 were saved from death by medical retinues. Chirugeons and doctors are extremely valuable

Thats because in Rome Surrectum the income you gain from your cities is very high, much higher then in vanilla, but in XGM the income you gain from cities is the same as in vanilla (maybe a little higher, but not much).

RS with 0 turn gives you insane amounts of money, XGM is definitely not similar in that respect...

hmm..i try to follow what conan said...and it is much easier using macedonia rather than rome..every region i conquered i will exterminate them all,the only thing we cant do in reality...

to all of the XGM team ,congratulation of creating this awesome mod..i do like playing macedonia because of its phalanx pikeman and foot companion..

Just a thing to be aware of about extermination though, wancnet. It's a good idea when you're desperate for money now (usually to build economic projects which should be being constructed every turn they are available) and to reduce unrest in cities not of your culture but you should remember it also kills lots of people who would otherwise be paying you taxes. The income earned from one large happy city is far better to have than a one time bonus and a devestated province.

This is a problem? I like a lot of things about RS, but one thing that annoyed me was the unrealistic economy. I could hit 1,000,000 dn easy on RS and still destroy everybody else.

hey sorry gaius_caesar for my long absent..busy with exterminating the city that i conquered..

anyway ,i played macedonia and rome ,it's depending on my mood..but i did played macedonia a lot ,because of its phalanx pikeman..

sometimes I do play rome but prefer carthage because playing Rome can be a bit boring for me

hahah..i do like paying rome because of its legionaries..before playing as rome i will watch "Gladiator" movie when i think i want to play rome ,it will give me a great sense of leadership when i command an army....

same goes to macedonia ,i will watch Alexander's movie..the great part in "Alexander" is when Alexander having battle with persian army led by darius..love to see when phalanx pikeman stand still against rushing army of persian..

and also the briliant tactics by alexander when he drove away the darius's cavalry so that he can finish them off...

currently i'm having financial problem with macedonia ,- 6940 in treasury..with only 8 region and 2 full stack of army ,one army for expanding teritory and one for defending my teritory from enemy..

well campaign isn't going that well,...

my carthaginian empire is having cultural problems, you know the eastern civilised etc...,

you can do what scutarii had suggested, blitz or disband but I prefer blitz...

and yeah Alexander's tactics was awesome in that movie!

8 regions + 2 full stacks = financial disaster

Disbanding probably isn't going to help you know because you're already in the red. You need to conquer new territory ASAP. If you exterminate the populace of 1 strong city, it should be enough to get you back into the positive range. Once you've done that, start disbanding.
