Default Howard Stern: People of Harlem back pro-life, pro-war candidate Barack Obama and his VP pick Sarah Palin

"The best argument against democracy is a five-minute conversation with the average voter."

    - Winston Churchill

Kudos to Stern (of all people) to put that quote to test.

I seriously don't know whether I should laugh or cry.

Harlem isnt exactly the place of 'average voters' I believe. Many if not most of them are probably way below average voters so to speak.

I really like how innocent you make your offensive statements sound.

Truth remains truth, offensive or not.

But I'm more afraid that these are very much "average voters". And that's offensive to all senses as well as any notion of democracy.

Yeah. He walked around Harlem asking himself questions and giving stupid answers. No wait, he sat in a studio while another person asked random people questions, whose minds were not controlled by Stern to my knowledge.
The common culture of a tribe is a sign of its inner cohesion. But tribes are vanishing from the modern world, as are all forms of traditional society. Customs, practices, festivals, rituals and beliefs have acquired a flut and half-hearted quality which reflects our nomadic and rootless existence, predicated as we are on the global air-waves.

More interesting is whether Jankren considers them below average because he thinks Harlem is a poor ghetto? Or maybe because it has a majority black people living there? And then which of the two, if not both, disqualifies them as average voters and who he thinks represent the average american voter better.

So you think its more interesting to find out what the motivation behind Jankren's comments is rather than if they are correct or not?

You got it right my friend. I mean seriously, its HARLEM. This may be a little prejudiced but from the way they sound I doubt those people being questioned off the street even know how to read.

Though I honestly believe a black person voting for Obama just because he is black is less stupid than people who wont vote for Obama because they think terrorist trait runs in his blood. I mean Jesus, seriously ...?

Well, to be fair, neither poor people nor blacks represent an average US voter.

    Democracy sucks.

Heh, that's why they didn't write the word "democracy" in the US Constitution once at all.

In a real democracy this wouldn't happen because in a real democracy people vote primarily on parties, not persons.

let's talk to the "average" Republican supporters.

wut's the point of picking out some not-so-bright people from either side and bash the entire political segment? Caelius you disappoint me big time with this crap.

I second this post. Pathetic. The people in those videos are not voting Obama because of his name, terrorist, his arab-ness, skincolour, islam, etc. etc. They are dumber then shite.

At least the Harlem residents were tricked.

As for the videos, mind if I put them in my hate campaign thread?

It's not really much of a trick when you bring up the very most basic and obvious issues and people related to them...

This is the oldest trick in the book. Tell some one to touch their elbow whilst tapping your shoulder and they will most likely touch their shoulder without realising. Its all about leading them on. I'm sure if you asked them "What are Baracks policies?" they would know (more or less). Also Stern only broadcast 3 people answering the questions. 3 people doesn't equal good representation of opinions in Harlem.

As for thinking he is a terrorist because of his name. Grow up.

I wonder what would happen if he used his middle name as well on the campaign trail?...

True, they were politically illiterate but these weren't people at rallys, just off the street, unlike the videos bushbush posted which were politically literate people who attended rally and engaged in the process. The harlem folks were probably just told vote for Obama coz he's democrat and Bush was Republican. Wheras their GOP equivalent's main reason was Obama is a terrorist or arab. Which is total nonsense.

What exactly do you expect at rallys? Hell check recent Mccain "march" here in NYC that was greeted by people throwing things at them, screaming at them as being fascist etc. Your comparison is flawed here as average person on the street != rally....you expect venom by people who CHOOSE to attend a rally as opposed to someone walking on the streets. This is true of republican or democrat, apples and oranges here.

It is not below average. You said 'these are very much "average voters"'.
