CTD, please assist.

Hello.

I installed IJ today on BI 1.6 modded previously and patched with regular IBFD, and unsuccessfully modded with Rio (which CTD's at the opening load screen saying I have a building file missing at line whatever.)

However, I went ahead and installed IJ, but no desktop shortcut showed up. So I added -mod:IJ -show_err to the target on the vanilla BI icon and off I go. Now, I CTD whenever I try to play either the main or provincial campaign as Julian. Keep in mind that this may apply to other factions as well, I just haven't tried them yet.

What could be wrong and how could I fix it? Would Rio be missing me up? Is this a common problem that just requires a fresh reinstall of IJ (and not a full reinstall of Rome and BI?)

It may be the dreaded quotes files. Please delete the quotes.txt file found in the IJ/data/text folder and see if that does the trick.

Thanks for your response, Julianus. I tried that and it has no discernible effect.

Upon more testing however, I have found out that I *can* play IJ, its just very hit or miss. When I click the shortcut there is about an 60% chance that the game crashes when I try to start a campaign (or if I hit esc to get through the opening cinematic.) There seems to be a similar chance of the game crashing when I quit a campaign.

I can't really tell any pattern in this, other than the fact that I seem to have a much greater chance of successfully starting a campaign if I wait a long period of time between campaigns (i.e. 1 or 2 hours)...which is very weird. Its not like I can't play certain campaigns, I can play them all as far as I can tell its just that sometimes they feel like crashing when I start them and sometimes they don't.

Any other ideas, or suggestions?

Oh I hate these random CTD's. Now just to be clear, have you also installed the IJV2.01a patch as well?

Yes, I have installed it. As an update, I also just got a CTD when loading a battle on turn one in Britain as Julian, meaning all of my careful planning and balancing of the budget was lost >_<

On a more positive note however, you guys have done a wonderful job bringing life and interest to the Late Roman Empire in comparison to what I think was a shoddy attempt by CA in the vanilla expansion. So kudos to you on that one.

Have you deleted these files too:

descr_quotes_lookup.txt
descr_transition_screen.txt.

They are found in the IJ/data folder. They need to be deleted to reduce the CTD's.

I've now deleted those last two txt. docs as instructed, and so far it seems more stable. I haven't really played very long, but I suppose that its a good sign that the same battle I CTD'd on last time is currently underway as I minimized to write this.

I'll update if there are any more problems!
