Whilst unarmoured and equipped with weaponry better suited to hunting game, when called upon to engage the enemy in close quarters or at range, these men are capable of fighting with a determination that belays their lack of formal training.
Local hunters, who although unskilled and ill equipped for warfare, are ferocious and determined fighters.

Professional soldiers of Charlemagne's reforms, these men are modelled on the English style longbowmen. As the longbow is difficult to master, longbowmen begin training at a young age.

Liberi Spearmen
Spear - Light - Spear+Shields
The Lombards were originally a Germanic people, who established the Kingdom of Italy, until it was conquered by the Franks in 774. Now they fight for the Franks using their long spears.
These lightly armoured soldiers are skilled in the use of the long spear.

Miles Spearmen
Spear - Heavy - Spear+Shields
Frankish Spearmen are professional warriors, drawn from the lower classes. They have some skill in combat and are well equipped with long spears, large shields and mail armour. They're very solid defensive units, able to resist attacks from both foot and horse, so long as they are well supported. If necessary they can form a defensive circle.
Trained and hardened warriors protected by a large shield and mail. Armed with spears and able to form a defensive ring of spears.

The are a group of people who were able to remaining unconquered by the Roman Empire due to their ferocious strength in combat. Frankish General's are well aware of the Germans' skill with the axe and have made certain that the most talented German Axemen are recruited to the ranks of their armies.

Miles Infantrymen
Infantry - Heavy - Sword+Shields
Frankish Noble Swordsmen represent those of the nobility who prefer to fight on foot. Armoured in chainmail and wielding a sword and shield, these skilled warriors provide a Frankish general a unit with staying power and attacking skill combined in one package.

Spatamen
Infantry - Heavy - Sword+Shields
Carolingian Spataman are very heavily armoured foot troops who can cut a bloody swathe through nearly all infantry they will encounter. This unit is deployed by the Frankish Empire and often forms the vanguard when assaulting enemy battlelines. They use shields and longswords (spatha).
These well trained warriors are protected by heavy armour and wield a longsword.

Milites
Cavalry - Heavy - Spear/Sword+Shields
As Europe emerges from the dark ages, the armoured cavalry have begun to employ new tactics, gripping their lances tightly under their arms as they charge, transferring the full momentum of horse and man to the point. Combining heavy armour, a strong warrior ethos, and a devastating charge, they have come to dominate the battlefield.
Encased in mail and equipped with lances and swords these early knights are formidable fighting machines.

Scola Bodyguard
Cavalry - Heavy - Spear/Sword+Shields
The Scola are knights of Frankish heritage and as expected, these knights arrive on the battlefield well trained and equally well equipped. Favouring a light lance and sword, they fill the niche between light and heavy cavalry.
These knights are from noble families, are well trained and equipped with a lance and sword.
