Rome Total War Battle and Building problems

Having recently installed RTW I have notice a few quirks:

1. When fighting battles there is no deployment screen, where you normally deploy your forces or wait for weather to improve.
2. Also, some buttons are greyed out (Fire at will for example)
3. Not able to build buildings at all in some locations with governor present.

Maybe reinstalling will be the quick way to fix but which folders do I need to save?

Is this occurring in every battle? Remember, some battle do not have deployment screens, like in a siege where enemy (AI) sallies out.

Also, some buttons are greyed out (Fire at will for example)

Again, is this occurring even if the unit selected can do the grayed out task? If the selected unit cannot do that task, like "fire at will" for example, then the button will be grayed out.

Not able to build buildings at all in some locations with governor present.

Make sure the auto-mange option is turned off for the settlement.

The buttons for group, fire at will and some others are greyed out. I have to press G to group units but disable fire at will isn't working.

The deployment screen definitely isn't working so have to think and act quickly.

This is because of a melee unit (cavalry or infantry) into your group.

It is definitely a problem as I group missile units only (velites etc). A reinstall is the order of the day.

It sounds like your set up or install is messed up big tme.

You should only not get a deployment time as atraps has posted when an army sallies from a settlement you are laying siege to. You also won't get a deployment phase if you've been ambushed. As an experiement - what happens in a custom battle?

Is fire at will greyed out for missile units?

If you look on the strategy map there can be a cog symbol next to the settlement details - this indicates that the settlement is being auto managed. Also when you open the build queues there is a box that contains 'auto manage'. I think there is an option somewhere that will automanage a settlement if there is no governor present (but as you've posted this happens even when there is a governor present).

I don't auto-manage settlements unless necessary. The missile units are selected but greyed-out buttons.

Sounds like a re-install is necessary but which folders do I need to save so not having to start campaign again?

You save games! There should be a folder called 'saves' where your saves will be.

Unless you use Vista then they will be in the 'virtual store' folder.
