    Default Children of Men

inspired by cuaron's 'children of men', i'm curious to know how you'd react in the face of impending human extinction via human infertility.
    how would you feel, philosophically?
would you just give up hope and become anarhic?
    or keep on trying?
    never giving up?

    loved the movie first off.

I can never say for certain what i would do at that time but id probably keep marching on. Not in the sense of going to work trying to keep my life unchanged but id go and do the things that are really important to me as a person , id spend more time with my parents and siblings , work on traveling differnt places and generally try to keep my self happy.

I would go sleep with as many women as possible until one of them gets pregnant. I would be a hero, I would crown myself emperor of Earth...

Broblem in that movie was not the men but the women. Women could not get pregnant.
Everybody here tkaes it the way that if humanrase would not be able to preed then we would extinct tomorrow.
That's not the case. There would be humans on earth as long as the youngest of us lives.
So I would just keep on living normally and would try to uphold the rules of our society. That's because if there where anargy our lives would indeed be short and violent.
Even if a thousand people believe in a lie, it's still a lie.
Oh. If you don't understand my english then I'm sorry. I'm just bad at it. Now playing:

I'd just try to live as normally as I could but who knows the impeding extinction of human race within 50 or so years would make many people go insane and start trying illegal experiments and stuff like that.

indeed, ppl would go mad, there's no doubt about it
it's like taking away the will to live and makes u realise how valuable it is, the ability to reproduce, to create the future.
for those pppl in the film, there is no future.
like the film 'soylent green', the gov. endorses suicide with 'suicide kits'...it really has come to that point.

i found the msot disturbing image being that of an a frail old german woman locked in a cage with other migrants, speaking german with no idea, no hope and nowhere to go. poor woman.

i'd dedicate my life to discovering a cure.
it's hard cuz the film doesnt specify why women cant have babies, and infertility can be caused by a lot of things eg PCOS, weak eggs, menopause etc

I think its a reference to the holocaust.
The common culture of a tribe is a sign of its inner cohesion. But tribes are vanishing from the modern world, as are all forms of traditional society. Customs, practices, festivals, rituals and beliefs have acquired a flut and half-hearted quality which reflects our nomadic and rootless existence, predicated as we are on the global air-waves.

Perhaps the problem is in the men. Some kind of mutation of the sperm causing abnormalities in the embryo so that it can't survive longer than a few days. Don't go blaming all these science-fiction futuristic armageddons on the women.

And the woman was so far resigned that it wasn't even being in the cage that she was complaining about, but being in a cage with a black man next to her she couldn't get away from. She kept saying "Schwarze! Schwarze!" with dread in her eyes - "you've put me in with some black, can't you see I'm white?"

I read the book, and this is the only time I can say I liked the movie better than the book. The book was so dry and boring. The parts to break the boredom were good enough to keep you reading, but they were few and far apart.

Anyway, I'd just live up my life. It's not like I'm going to meet some horrible end. I remember one of the character said something like, if the world was destined to come to ann end, there was no better way than simply dying out.

i'd spend the rest of my life researching the cause of the infertility and finding ways to resolve it.

btw, i guess it's not so far from reality.
infertility can be caused by a lot of factors, and what with less and less ppl having kids...

    I'd keep trying, all right.

Btw, crap movie. With society caving in on itself, the most revolutionary movements try to save illegal immigrants, who by their mere presence only worsen conditions for those already there? Terribly unrealistic. This Human Rights/Amnesty stuff is a luxury only the alienated and radicalized middle-class kids can afford. In such a failed society as the one depicted in the movie, I'm sure empathy for such opportunism would be low.

Best movie of 2006 and makes an entry into my top 10 of all time.

As for children disappearing, I would be grateful. I detest the loathsome beggars. And who cares if the human race dies as a result? I'm going to die myself, aren't I?

    Right there.

My name will be forgotten soon enough anyway, why pretend we care for the next generation?

For some its not a pretense.

I would do anything I could to save the human race , maybe not finding a cure , but living it on in spirit , archiving and building big monuments *even though as after people taught me they wont last forever* , so I guess I would do all the things I ever wanted.
