Default Dawn of the New World - Americas Mod

I'm proposing a new mod for M2TW: Kingdoms.

I've been playing the Americas campaign for Kingdoms, and it's struck me that, despite being such an interesting setting, there are no real mods out there for it. I've played it, and I'm not satisfied with what could potentially be a very deep and enjoyable experience.

The mod I'm making will potentially be called "Dawn of the New World", or DotNW for short. It'll be based off the existing Americas map, but I hope to extend it further north. It will cover the 16th and 17th centuries in the Americas, and will include more or less the same factions that are currently in the Americas expansion, however more factions will be playable, and I will likely add in the Dutch and the Portugese as playable factions in addition to France and England.

My initial plan is thus, and not necessarily in this order, mind you

    • Make the new map.
    • Add the new factions. There will not be many of these, as I'm not interested in a huge faction list and all the bugs that come with it. As AlphaDelta aptly put it a while ago "It seems that a mod nowadays has to have 30 factions to be taken seriously." DotNW will not have a rediculously large amount of playable factions therefore. I do intend to keep some factions unplayable, as I believe they help to flesh out the campaign map more as a result.
    • New rosters for the factions involved, especially for the Colonists. I'm not talking about completely new units here, just some renaming and stat balancing.
    • New faction logos, as well as other aethsetics such as new menus, and new music (maybe).
    • Maybe some new unit skins, although the initial open beta will likely not include these. Perhaps, in the fullness of time, I will be able to find a modeller to make some totally new units, but this is not important at the moment.

The main idea behind this project is not a major full conversion. It's more like an enhancement for the Americas campaign, in the same way SS is an enhancement for the Grand Campaign. So basically this will not be a huge project, like 'The Frontier' or 'EBII', and so as a result it should have a reasonable time frame for development, as opposed to taking 3 years to make.

I will also not be gathering together a huge mod team to help me with this. It will be mostly done by myself, so I can work at my own pace, Despite this, however, I AM looking for the following:

    • A mapper, who can help me make the adjustments to the Americas map, as I'm personally useless at this.
    • Historians familiar with the period, who can give me as much info as possible regarding faction rosters, starting positions and the like. Basically to help me pick apart Vanilla, and make a much more historically accurate interpretation of the new world.

That's all for now. If you feel you can help with either of the above, please get in touch either in this thread, or PM me.

    Faction list:

    Vanilla Factions:
    - New Spain
    - New France
    - English Colonies
    - Aztec Empire
    - Taxlaxcans (sp?)
    - The Mayans
    - Chichimeks
    - Tarascans
    - Apacheans

    New Factions:
    - The Dutch
    - Perhaps another two Native American tribes to the north (northern USA/Canada), and in the South (South America: Brazil, Peru etc.)

New map. Big thanks to Nakharar for the time he's spending on this.

    Screens:
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
These are a reskinned unit from Stainless Steel, so they won't be in the mod, but you get the idea. Darker armour, and none of that stripy/checkerboard rubbish on the clothes. They wouldn't of been able to afford clothes like that for the common soldiers, it was cheaper for just a plain dye.

Yes, but it's not the same. I'm very interested in this . I think it's because the dutch are included.

It could be regarded as similar, yes, but this concerns a different time frame, and will as a result include different factions, and a different map. The frontier's map looks uncomfortably big, in my opinion. The Kingdoms one was just about right, IMO, but I'd like to extend it a bit North and south.

I'm fairly positive these guys will be in. I was quite horrified that CA didn't put the Dutch into the Americas campaign to start with. I guess they were being lazy and couldn't be bothered. Portugal will be in as well. In fact I'm REALLY surprised Portugal weren't there either, seeing as they were already a faction in the Grand campaign.

OP? Well, I'm really interested in mods that are set in periods after 1600. For King or Country ruled also. It is a small mod. but amazingly good. And I wanna help modelling . Not researching xD. I can model quite well. You should look in the dutch republic faction treath in the forum of empire total war. That's the place for historians.

Ok, that's cool. I'd still like to keep the modelling work to a minimum, but seeing as how the Dutch will be an all new faction it would be worth doing some work in this area. Thanks for the tip, btw, and I agree, FKoC is an excellent mod. It's partly behind the inspiration for this mod.

Oh, and OP -> Opening Post.

Ok, thank you very much. And we/you don't have to make a lot of new units. We can take the ones from vanilla and make them look more modern . It will cost a lot of modelling and skinning time. Making a release come sooner.

Updated OP with a faction list. Although it's somewhat dependant on getting some good historians on board.

    Also added some screens

    Well, here's the current map:

I'd like to extend it North so It looks more like this, so that in the later half of the campaign, I can represent the conflict between the French and English/British in the North.

You have my thanks! Don't worry too much about the details, just having a rough map is enough.

Updated OP with new faction logos.
