    Default Portugal suddenly quitted?

Hi,First post on this forum, I have been reading this forum for quite some time. Finally registered because I can't figure out what happened yesterday at my vanilla MTW 2 game.I was playing as Spain and was at peace with Portugal. Portugal started a war with the Moors, and I joined a few turns later. I had spies near the cities of Lisbon and Pamplona to keep track of Portugal achievements.Suddenly I get the message Faction destroyed: Portugal. The Moors didn't touch them, and Pamplona and lissbon had become rebel cities. How is this possible?Greetz Wolf.

Their last family member must have died. Once all family members are killed, the faction destroyed message comes up and all their units and provinces rebel.

That's the only reason I can think of that might have caused this.

Whoa, that is a new one for me. So what you are saying instead of taking over all settlements from 1 faction, I could also try kill all family members? That sounds easier, if you have some decent assassins.

But to help you do this fast and quick try to have atleast 3 or 4 Assassins and try to kill their family members in the same turn.

The game is scripted to let the player or AI adopt members and family is short so the more you kill in the same turn the more chances are to destroy that faction as they can recruit or adopt only one General per turn.

I have tried to destroy factions through assasins many times, but so far it has been impossible. You need a really good assasin to kill a faction leader and it takes so much time to train one (not to mention the others you need for the rest of the family) that the family usually has so many members it is a little hard to kill them all.

So far i have used assasins to win battles (disposing of a 5-8 star general just before i attack with an equivalent) but never won wars (or peace...) with them...

Its easier early in the campaign as factions don't have so many family members.

That sounds difficult, so the case of the destruction of Portugal is a rare one? The AI simply threw all his generals in the jaws of the Moors I suppose. Shame I was determined to keep Portugal alive for a while, our diplomatic relation was outstanding.

No it's not rare and can hapen to any factions thta starts out with a low family tree that are usually a faction with only one or two settlements from the start like: Danes. Portugual, Hungray, Russia, etc...

Yes it is hard and time consuming, I did it once but I won't do it twice but is it feasable

Ya, like what was stated above the Portuguese probably popped their entire family on a ship and it got sunk or they attacked the moors with their generals and all of them died. France did that to me once and their territories became rebels
