Let's suppose Barack Obama wins the presidential elections this year.

Do you think he will bring a radical change to tighten up gun control laws in the USA (following the example of the European Union)?

Here is the related Wiki article:

PS: I am neither a democrat, nor a republican fan, and I don't care much about party differences and presidential candidates, I only care about this issue.

I really hope not. When I move out, I want the means to protect me and my expensive computer equipment from the druggies around where I live, since I'll be moving into a trailer home.

I don't want to be denied from purchasing a weapon because of a history of OCD - which is the opposite of psychosis.

How do you mean this sentence? OCD = obsessive-compulsive disorder?

Guns should be legal in the uncivilized region of the South only. I want the civilized northern states like California where I live to tighten gun control even more.

What a strange statement considering "northern" states like California, New York, Michigan, Illinois, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, Ohio, Maryland, and the city of Washington DC house some of the counties with the most violent crime in the nation. I hardly think civilization is determined by whether you are above or below the Mason-Dixon.

Metropolitan cities and high crime rate go hand in hand everywhere in this world. Imagine if firearms were easier to access in such places. Im sure we would have some kinda internal state war here in California or something.

I hate to burst your bubble, but firearms are about as easy to obtain as drugs they only cost more. The whole idea that gun control laws control guns is an illusion. In Washington DC handguns are illegal, but that hasn't done much to stop the murder rate by firearms in that wonderful city.

If your point is that legal gun ownership provides easier access to guns, well then you would be right. But making it illegal doesn't stop the criminal element from obtaining them. And it never will. It will only prevent law-abiding citizens from obtaining them.

    CALIFORNIA is nothern?

Thats like calling Florida, southern. They should have administered a compass test on your citizenship test, jankren.

Also, it's due to gun control, that you won't "even more" of, that your state is one of the most absurdly dangerous ing places in the entire Union. If anything Californian idiots should be following my beloved Florida's example, and letting criminals know that they run the very real risk of getting a bullet in their ing face if they attempt to victimise our people.

It's hilarious, Florida and Cali. We both have near identical cultures, were both on the same areas of the same coasts, and yet one is murder metropolis, the other is vastly more safe.

Your position really is a case of blind prejudice and willful ignorance. I'd think someone living in Cali would be beginning to wake up but nah. I was mistaken.

Oh and I'm reporting you for calling the South uncivilised, I don't like the South either seeing as I now live in it, but they aren't "un-civilised" and frankly your reasoning behind saying that is nothing more then blind prejudice. It disgusts me.

Also, Obama said he wants to bring back the biggest failure of the Clinton Administration, the assault weapon ban... which attacks weapons that aren't any different (in many cases weaker) then hunting rifles. It's why I'm very good at hiding things. Please don't promote illegal activity - Manstein when I live in the Obamanation I'll be a goddamn ninja at hiding my guns. that guy.

I don't think there should be a ban but i think gun laws should be stricter, so not every dumba@@ out there can get one, as far as gun laws go they should be focused on gun dealers and trafficking.

I understand the same story that everyone uses about safety and protect my own which i comp agree with, but as far as assault rifles, and any other weapon were the only sole purpose is to kill someone, i don't think they should be in the hands of just anyone.

esp considering the comp lack of education in the united states, trusting ignorant people that can't even get a high school degree with automatic weapons is deff not the smartest thing to do, as is most more intelligent people don't find going out and shooting crap all that entertaining.

As far as hunting rifle's and other recreational firearms, i don't see any issue with. The main issue everyone gets at with handguns is the exact same thing automatic rifles and Uzi's, is the simple fact that there only meant for one thing killing people, so having stricter laws thats help keep the guns out the hands of drug dealers, gang members and esp high school kids, that seem to find it so easy to go on killing spree's.

As for protecting your self there are many other means to do that without firearms, and without murdering your assailant, i think that maybe the comp lack of gun control is the reason why no one tries to look at the alternative's, what for it's easier to simply get a gun and shoot the guy.

OT, i think obama won't change much on this subject; the public opinion is just too divided on it in the US. my personal opinion is strict regulation, but whatever Obama's opinion is, i think it will come low on his priority list. considering the problems the US and the rest of the world are facing today it's a non-issue anyway.

Agreed. Obama is not dumb enough to risk political suicide.

I don't think Obama would be dumb enough to attack gun ownership so quick after the Supreme Court's ruling that the 2nd amendment does give individuals the right to bear arms. He may try to ban certain kinds of guns (assault weapons for example) and see how the court rulles on that.

No he wont beyond rational laws on restriction or assault weapons...he isnt stupid and if he was he'd get the guns alright but he would probably get them bullets first. Besides like abortion the gun issue is in my view a settled issue per the supreme court.

What power does the POTUS have to do anything? The only thing he could do is "not" veto a "radical" bill from Congress...

    The POTUS doesn't make laws.

This is very true and it is why I'm disappointed that the congressional races are being ignored in favor of only focusing on the president. I'm at college in a different state and I honestly could not name who is running for congress in my district without looking them up.

True, Obama himself even said that when questioned about guns at one of his speeches. I forget where, but some dude asked about that and he said something to the affect of "Even if I wanted to take your guns, I wouldn't have the votes in congress to be able to do it."

It's why people need to pay attention to who's in Congress, and people seeking to keep their rights, ought to be running for Congress. Same goes with religious issues, true, an atheist can't make it into office right now (unfortunately) but Congress would be no problem. The more independent minded, non-partisan hacks capable of being both pro-gun and anti-war, pro-legalisation and anti illegal immigration, are the ones that need to be running for congress, not president.

No very very unlikely Americans have talked about this for years and years, and no one has been able to takeaway or affect guns in the United States...it's just a good rhetoric to please silly Liberals...same way declaring oneself an agent of god pleases the conservatives...

Or to stupidly give them ammunition against you?

Because in America 'taking the guns' roughly translates into 'rape your elderly mothers, kill your dogs, and eat your children'.

According to the Constitution Americans should also be eligible to bear nuclear arms. Ridiculous and obsolete ordinance.

Florida is nothing compared to California. We have much more people, much more diverse population, much more dynamic and competitive society which often drive people into insanity or crimes, etc here.
