Rome Total War / Vista / Freez / Help me plz.

Yo:

I just installed Rome Total War on windows vista because I wanted to play as Carthage so I could kick some Roman @$$ and as you know I need Rome Total War for that. I installed it everything went fine. I started a game as the Scippii to unlock Carthage and it was all going great until I was playing a Battle in the game. I was attacking a elephant unit with skirmishers and when I killed the General it zoomed in like it was going to show his death and it just froze!

I don't know why this happened. My laptop has Windows Vista on it and I don't know is its that. Maybe its the Graphics level ( is it two high?) I just don't know. Anyway, what do you guys thing of it.

You've not told us anything about the system you use or the graphics card that you use - so it's fairly hard to say if it could be your graphics settings or not.

When a general is killed it plays a 'cut scene' which is what appears to have caused you problems.

I'd suggest making sure that your Windows software is all up-to-date and try again. RTW uses Windows Media Player for movies - I am not sure if that is what is used for cut scenes.

Its a 8600GT 256GB Graphics Card. And before I installed Rome Total War I installed M2TW and it installed DX9 for me, so I think if it is up-to-date enough for M2TW then I think it's good enough for Rome Total War.



But I just don't know for sure.

Although the skins look higher quality for M2TW than RTW I've read that it is an illusion.

As I posted before - make sure that Windows Media Player is up to date.

If you play custom battles does the laptop freeze up after a certain time? I presume with that card the laptop needs sufficient air to cool itself. Make sure the intake vents are clear.

Well I did a few custom battles and it it's been working fine. hmm, maybe it was just a random freeze. Anyway, I'm going to keep this thread updated and if nothing happens in a bit go ahead and shut down the thread.

I've just started using vista and hav installed r:tw fine but whenever i try nd start the game, it says it can't locate directx 9. i cant install directx 9 becus directx 10 is alredy on the computer, how do i install it properly.

@dan727 Here try this link http://en.softonic.com/s/directx-9 You should know that direct x 10 will work with rome total why it is not is rather odd i never had that say that to me

When I had Vista, I had to load dx9 for Rome. Why mine and not yours? I guess the gods are against me.

I wouldnt say that I had strange luck with vista never had any problems. Like another soul here said "sometime it works some times it dosent".

I've had no problems with Vista 64 bit Ultimate Edition with a pair of GTX280 cards. Runs DX9 and DX10 games OK.

Before I installed any games I did go through the process of running 'Tweak UAC' to switch off the UAC warnings.

dus having vista business make any difference because weneva i try to install the directx version u showed me, it trys to initialise then comes up with "setup could not download the file, please retry later or check network connection." i hav dun both and was wondering if anyone else had come up against problem like this

Vista does make a big difference. download this: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en to your desktop and run it from there.
