    Default Sieges

First of all I must say that I'm loving your mod, I even went to my personal library pick up my Osprey books about this period.

Now to the point. Since the timeframe is one turn one month, shouldn't you increase the amount of time for the construction of siege weapons? And another question. Did they use rams in the English Civil War? Ladders I can imagine that they could possible use them to storm fortifications.

Cheers and once more thank you for your hard work.

personally guessing they didn't, so only allowing ladders/cannons for seiges would make it harder for both parties.

For any who are interested by my FF on occurrences in Rhun and beyond; I have begun a new project (not because the old one is finished, just opening more room for ideas) about one of the minor characters, Rankal. It is in the Third Age AAR index and here is the link http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=376994

rams were used but only in a very ad hoc fashion, usually in smaller scale sieges of the houses of royalists and their sympathisers.literally by picking up a large object and thumping a door down with it!there were countless sieges of various scales during the wars, and some intreresting and unusual equipment was used.

i saw on worst history jobs that they used to have this bomb nail with a plank of wood on and they would charge to the gate without trying to get shot and blow the gates up and runing back

When I started developing the mod I had a real fear:

AI Pikemen would scale ladders and crash out of siege towers to fight on walls with pikes.

Now I'm not saying they didn't use ladders, they did. However, no one in their right mind would climb a ladder to fight a defender, with an 18 foot pike in hand. As we don't have the option to switch a pikemen from say a pike to halberd when he enters a siege, the only choice was to get rid of ladders.

I also didn't like the idea of rams very much, but I was willing to tolate them as they represent the action, if not the form, of a petard.

Thankfully I managed to disable ladders and towers, rams are not so easy to be rid of.

Since the timeframe is one turn one month, shouldn't you increase the amount of time for the construction of siege weapons?
Do you mean siege weapons like cannons or siege engines like rams?

I agree that both should probably take longer to produce, but then in this period sieges very often only lasted a few days or a week.

    Cheers

siege warfare was almost 80% cannon work, not culverines.cannons were used to batter holes, the besieged oftentimes had access to multi barreled guns.any units with battering rams would have been turned into confetti in short order.ad,how difficult would it be to "convert"a battering ram into a sow?the models used now look vertually the same,so instead of "thump" you"d have "bang".
